The fix is in!

It seems the FBI raid on Top Rank is linked to two other fights which were allegedly fixed (one involving Jorge Paez against Verdell Smith). My response. So what! Countless results bear srutiny in my opinion.
I was at ringside for two of Gary Mason's fights, for example, both times against American fighters who shall remain nameless (but they fought Tyson). The first time, Mason's opponent suddenly turned and quit when under no pressure. The second time, Mason's opponent literally swooned to the canvas without even being hit. Both men were giving Mason good fights.

I'm surprised you are in the 'So what!' brigade.
Surely the only way we are going to ever stop this happening, is if there is an obvious price to be paid for corruption.

Proving it is almost impossible.

Not if you've been walking around wearing recording equipment and wire-tapping people's phones. Which is what they've been doing as far as I can tell.

From what I read were they the Biggs and Tillis match-ups?
What exactly happened there?

Anyone else here think Taylor v Rios was a fix, christ, that shot barely touched Rios! What a fornicating joke.

Who cares?
He would have beaten him anyway. It was also not in Taylor's best interests for his people to fix a fight. He needs rounds before he faces someone real good.

The fight I remember being suspicious about conerning Mason was the one where he faught Tyson's sparring partner - Armstrong.
I was also suspicious about Biggs, who did seem to crumble in a heap.

Yep Biggs was defintely looking for a soft place to land against Mason.
Rios, on the other hand James, I thought took a good shot. One of those deceptive, brain rattling top of the head punches. You could tell he was "out" by the way he went down: his arms were limp, not stopping the back of his head from hitting the canvas - which it did.
With dives you'll get the guy bracing his fall, rather than falling flat on his back - which is near impossible to make youself do unless it's a soft landing.
Taylor looks as heavy handed as ever, decent jab too. It's going to be tough to keep matching him as they wait for Hop to age another year or so. He's likely to be a future Eastman opponent at this rate.

I've seen knockouts from shots to the top of the head before, it's just that one looked like it made so little contact, but yes he did go down very hard. Even Teddy Atlas questioned the punch on the broadcast though.
I think all this talk of corruption had got me searching for conspiracies.

I know for a fact that "wearing the cuffs" still goes on all over the world - and in this country. A well-known fighter from Watford has "worn the cuffs" on several occasions, for example.
"Wearing the cuffs", by the way, means not going full out.

After there USA fixing raid the FBI better take a trip over to Germany, although i doubt the budget would cover the amount of work they would have to do there

Do you mean pulling your punches, or going down soft?

shocking but you do have the suspicions from time to time.
Not too sure on the JT fight, the punch didn't look that hard but it did catch him on the top of the head........if it was 'staged' that guy has a great acting career ahead of him! He went down as if someone had shot him!

I posted not so long ago about an evening where almost all the knockdowns were from blows to the temple - it was the night where Lawrence Murphy put Wayne Elcock through the bottom rope - now is anyone suggesting that Elcock was "cuffed"?
The other thing about the Talor's stoppage of Rios was that Rios didn't see the punch coming which can (i'm told!) double the impact.

S.A. fighter 'fine' after close call
San Antonio middleweight Alex Rios returned home Saturday, apparently OK after some scary moments during a fight Friday night on national television against Jermain Taylor.
Rios was knocked out by Taylor 54 seconds into the first round during their scheduled 10-round bout at the Mohegan Sun casino in Connecticut.
Rios took a hard right to the top of the head and fell backward. He lay unconscious on the canvas for several minutes while being attended to by medical personnel.
"I'm fine," Rios said Saturday. "TV always makes things appear worse than what they really are."
Rios said he was taken to a Connecticut hospital for tests, which revealed he had a slight concussion. The blow that knocked him out appeared to glance off his head, but Rios said it was the "hardest I've ever been hit in 13 years" as a professional fighter.
Rios, who earned $13,500 for 54 seconds of work, said he knows what people are going to think.
"I don't care," he said. "People who know me know I would never take a dive, I wouldn't take a fight just for the money.
"But this is it. I told my wife I'm retiring, for good this time."

That's the kind of comment that would have got you barred from a "certain website".

bennie is dead right, it goes on quite a lot, especially in the early portions of future 'stars' careers.
Shrewd journeymen know their role and if they play the game they can be sure of plenty of good night's work in the future. Some journeymen are content to lose against people they are well capable of beating.
Obviously I'll not mention names, but prior to a heavyweight bout a couple of years ago, the 'opponent' was asked to be a bit inactive and not throw any big shots and in return the house fighter would just box for the 4 rounds and not go for the KO.
Anyway after the fight the 'opponent', although he hadn't got stopped, thought the house fighter had'nt stuck to the agreement and had thrown a few tasty shots, He walked into the lads dressing room, got right in his face and threatened to kick the shit out of him, sure enough the boy who'd just 'beaten' him was scared stiff and was quick to plead total ignorance.
As it turned out the house fighter genuinally hadn't been told about the agreement by his manager and the journeyman was calmed with an extra 200 quid or so.
