Inspired by the question of who and how Wlad might be/have been toppled, I wondered who might win an all time heavyweight tourney. Not who was the best of all time necessarily - styles make fights etc - but who would triumph in a set competition.

So, I picked 16 all time greats, focussing on fighters who were active post WW2 because we've all had that much more chance to see them on tape. Yes, you'll have to just take my opinion on the names. Anyway, I did a seeded draw to come up with the following set up. How do you see this playing out, if all fighters turned up on their best days over 12 round in a 20" ring?

And in the quarters/semis/final?

ali vs vitali = ali
louis vs holmes = holmes
bowe vs lewis= lewis
holyfield vs rocky = holyfield

i think ali would be too smart for vitali.
holmes would knock out louis within 5 rounds.
bowe vs lewis i think this would go to the judges,if this was pre holyfield bowe he would beat lewis tho imo.
holyfield would be too active for rocky,most of rocky's opponents were stationary and didnt have the footwork and combinations holyfield had in his day.

ali vs holmes = ali
lewis vs holyfield = lewis

a prime ali would be too much for holmes and i think he would toy with holmes before winning a ud.
lewis vs holyfield i think lewis would win by ud too.

the final i think would be the best heavyweight fight of all time,
ali vs lewis for the greatest heavyweight title of all,goat title.
for me i think ali would take lewis to the late rounds winning some close rounds before stopping lewis in round 10-11.

Interesting. I don't believe Tyson is the greatest Heavyweight, but based on that draw he would win through. Surprised myself to see Foreman in the final, but again the opponents in his draw were ones I would favour him over when he was at his very peak.

Tyson beats Ali!!!!!

I struggled with that one but I think he would. Ali is hugely overrated and prime Tyson is underrated due to his fall from grace.

Ali faced murderous punchers in Liston and Foreman, both big bad, hard men, and beat them both, and stopped them to boot. Tyson I personally think would have been frustrated as hell, plus Ali would have totally outpsyched him and screwed with his head in the buildup to the fight.

Tyson thrived on intimidation, guys like Ali, Foreman, Liston and Frazier, are guys he just couldn't intimidate.

I think Tyson could have beaten Frazier though, Frazier was much slower, and could be caught cold early by big punchers. Foreman was much slower than Tyson, and he went right through Frazier. Frazier didn't really face many big punchers in his career, no Lyle, no Shavers etc.

OOOOoo ...Holyfield to beat Foreman....contentious. I think Foreman would have ground him down over the stretch. Foreman had a fantastic chin and just kept on coming and coming.

Agree with everything else here pretty much though and end result would have been the same.
