BBC Sport's new feature Sportsday live reported today at 0857 that former world champion Ricky Hatton has announced a press conference for 1300 BST where there will be a "major annoucement".
Any news? could it just be very anti-climatic and just Matthew fighting for some kind of world title?

Seriously, who cares. What is the point making this announcement? We all knew he'd never box again. He just loves the attention, after 2 years of 'will he wont he'. Not taking away anything from his acheivements in the ring by the way.

Well said Macho. There are far too many haters. If Hatton wants to make an announcement, then good for him. If some people 'don't see the point', then why don't they just tune out.

You are a long time retired as they say, so surely Ricky should be allowed to reflect on what he achieved ?
He gets a bit emotional at the end of this interview - entirely understandable

Obviously we've known for a long time he wouldn't box again but I really think we ought to be paying tribute to a guy who made the absolute most of his talents, always left everything in the ring and was a really great British fighter.
Yes, he's had his troubles with the booze and drugs and yes his lifestyle out of the ring left a bit to be desired but the guy only ever lost to the the two best pound for pound fighters on the planet and had some great wins.
True warrior and wish him all the best.

Ricky Hatton - the last person to realise it's time for him to retire. Pity it's two years after the rest of us realised and two years after most people cared.

Wasn't Oscar's timing similar? Like yeah, we knew that mate? Hope that's the only similarity cos DLH is mugging himself right off with his oddball tweets from rehab. Someone take his phone off him FFS

A piss-up and a doner kebad for Ricky then. Ah well, that's a nice change from a piss-up and a doner kebab then.
