Having watched the boxing on saturday i couldnt help but get a bit nostalgic when Lewis was on screen!! I truely think he would of knocked them both out easily in his prime.

Also just the pure presence of the man and the way he goes about his business commands him respect.

He is a credit to the country and to the sport, surely for all he has acheived he deserves a knighthood

Lennox is a class act who deserves praise.

I was shocked to hear that he always worries about the reception he's going to get from British fight fans.

my pride and joy is a signed picture of him stood over tyson arms raised aloft.

we were honoured to be around to watch him.

If my memory serves me correctly prior to being trained by Emmanuel Steward the man who trained Oliver McCall who gave him first loss in the paid ranks in their first fight he was with Pepe Correa before switching to Steward and the Kronk Gym. I too like the guy as well he is so chilled out it is unbelieveable and he was a wonderful technician in the ring with a great jab and terrific KO power and is a wonderful ambassador for boxing as a whole along with this country and I think now he is in his retirement enjoying his millions, time with his kids and the odd bit com work with Sky et al that more people are feeling the love for him.

Add to that the fact that his style was considered a bit boring but was clearly more interesting than what we have now.

My favourite boxer of all time. One of the greatest but so under rated by many. Two freak defeats, the first a joke stoppage comapred what we usually see refs allow, the second because he under prepared. He avenged both defeats. Biggest flaw that he would sometimes box at the level of his inferior oppenents but when he fought good fighters he was superb. I still think if he was in an era with 3-4 great fighters we would have seen a an even better. Would be a champion in any era of heaveyweight champion.

He turn pro in April 89 and set up base in the Henry Cooper Old Kent Road London being train by John Davenport who in my eyes lay the ground and basic down for Lennox to build on.Lennox never lost under JD.

i dont think so. Bobby moore didnt get a knighthood.

Lewis wasnt really loved by british fans at all in the 90s and you need to be loved and to have done some charitable works and have something to say. Lennox was muffled most his career.

John Davenport and Harold Knight were there from day 1. training Lennox, The Henry Cooper gym was his base, John and Harold lived in Thamesmead, training in the gym every day, sparring, learning skills, bringing in sparring partners, build up Lennox's career , I know as I used to film it all for Lennox...might put up some old pics.......

The man is god damn effing royalty as far as i'm concerned and just seems to get cooler with age I was 15 when he fought Razor Ruddock, i video-ed it and lost count of how many times i watched it over the years. I was a pariah among my mates for wanting him to beat Frank!

You can quite easily make a case for Lennox to be considered the greatest HW of all time. He's certainly the best since Ali, and the lack of appreciation for him is rather baffling. For every 'cautious' fight he fought, there's 3 or 4 brutal KOs on his record.

I don't care about his nationality. I really like him, and George Foreman, too.

this is a good post and the earlier one from king geedorah was fantastic.

I dont agree lewis the best since ali. No way.....larry holmes would have jabbed him to death and shut him out......an old shot holyfield gave him fits in two fights verily the holyfield of 1989-1993 would have beaten him imo......tyson 88.....bowe is a big question........equally it can be argued lewis beats them all.....i agree with u though for every cautious performance like the mccall rematch, the tucker, mavrovic and tua fights on reflection u have all these incredible knockouts like botha,rahman,grant,ruddock,briggs,golota, and the way like u say he knew how to close a show like against bruno and tyson.

Larry Holmes would not have shut out Lennox. On his best day Lennox would have had a good chance against anyone that ever boxed.

Lennox peaked late mate, he would have beat Holmes,(it would have been close though) Lennox aint all those 80's heavyweights, he was better than Witherspoon, Williams, Snipes etc. who all gave Larry fits.

Just my opinion though.

Great boxer but a right prick IMPO, Smug and smarmy.

If he never retired and went on to face Vitali again in a rematch... He wouldn't be regarded as highly as he is today.

In a 3 fight series with any heavyweight in history Lewis would win at least 1 IMO.

Holmes is my alltime favourite boxer,with lennox second,but i would favour lennox to beat him because larry was vulnerable to a big right over the top,having said that holmes jab was in my opinion the best ever so who knows
