WBU middleweight champion Lawrence Murphy will make the first defence of his title against former champion Anthony Farnell on March 6 at the Braehead Arena in Glasgow.
Farnell made a successful return in December after a medical query, outpointing Peacock's Tomas Da Silva over six tough rounds.

Whilst I did mention Farnell as my tip, I'm still quiet shocked at this one - Farnell should be focusing on his own career which he claimed would be a Light Middle from now on.

Make or break fight for both, methinks. If Murphy loses im sure people will say the Elcock fight was a fluke. If Farnell were to lose then i really dont know what there is left for Arnie....having chatted to the lad i know how much boxing means to him.

Personally, I think the Elcock fight was a complete fluke, the shot which
put him down wasn't a great punch, it's just that it landed high on the head and sparked him out.

Tough to call IMO - Honestly i believe we are talking about three really average fighters here.

Elcock beat Farnell - so what?

Murphy blows out Elcock (agreed on the "lucky punch" - hard to know what Murphyis capable of) - So what - the only decent name on his rec was Farnell.

I personally give big props to allegedly - he must have been gutted when his biggest ticket seller lost his "title" - now he has as good a chance as he'll ever have to get it back.

Let me start by saying I like Arnie as a person, but from a boxing perspective I just don't get it.
On what basis does Arnie justify getting this chance ?
Why shout from the rooftops about a new regime and brag about how his weight has fallen off etc, to then take a Middleweight fight ?
There are other far more deserving Middleweights in the UK than Arnie, who should get this chance.
Personally, I hope Murphy takes him out.
If it happens, I can read the excuses now.
Mind not on it, weight problems etc etc, really I'm a light Middle ........
And do you know what ? Warren will still give him another chance.

Ok you're on - Bob will be 5-1 on. He's around 60 years old and very short sighted, but he's been putting in a lot of sparring with his wife Mable, who's a tricky southpaw.

You just know thatt if Farnell wins, he's going to start on about how he's a three time world champ, and should be thought of in the same way as Lewis. The Tool will probably start to cry as well!

I know for a fact that Arnie knows the WBU is not a top tier world title and would never put himself on a par with the worlds elite.

What you have to remember is that the lad is trying to make a living. He's hardly going to sit at ringside and say "The WBU's a sack of shite so I've decided not to fight for it, instead I'm going to dedicate my career to fighting 6 rounders for about a thirtieth of the money I'd earn for the bollocks that is the WBU."

It's easy for people to slag off the lesser belts, and IMO they deserve slagging, but I don't think you can blame the boxers for going for them. The money you get for a WBU challenge or defence is sadly far far greater that what you'd get for a ten rounder with no belt on the line.

Arnie is not a "tool", don't be so disrespectful.

Regardless of what people think about either Murphy's potential or Farnell's limitations I think this is an intriguing match-up.

Whilst their respective results against Elcock make one favour Murphy you have to feel theat there are other factors, I don't believe Murphy is that much better than Farnell, certainly not as much as the Elcock results might suggest.

I'll be looking forward to this one...

Farnell doesn't think the WBU is a top tier world title? Is that why he sobbed " I'm a world Champion" after beating Groenwold?
Believe it or not there are fighters out there who will slate these belts after winning ( Enzo Maccarinelli " I know I'm not a real world champ" after winnig his WBU strap").
I appreciate he's trying to make a living, in possibly the hardest sport in the world and therfore earns every penny.

actually the WBU was invented so a certain promoter doesnt have to match his best fighters, say if boxer A held the british title and boxer B wanted to fight for it, the boards would probably demand a fight between them. So a certain promoter gives boxer A and shot at the WBU belt to keep both fighters happy. The WBU is a good belt to get if you want to avoid the best in britain.

It was more the elation of beating Rueban that led to the tears I believe. When you talk to him in the cold, light of day he knows the score. After you've won a hard fight the elation you feel is something else and you're floating about in another world for a good few minutes, and you may well say and do some things that are a bit daft. You know what I mean, like footballers going barmy when they score a goal.

I bet Enzo got told to refrain from those sort of comments.
