Great piece and completely agree. Even he must cringe at him whipping his boot off in the ring to show everyone a broken pinky toe and claim thats why he never won. Haye has been a lot more humble after the fight and is distancing himself from his toe excuse but its easy to see why people are so infuriated by his inept performance.

Three years, a good few box office fees for what were pretty boring fights plus wasted trips to Germany when the first fight fell through followed by an expensive second trip in horrendous conditions all to see this one match-up........ Haye will be gutted at losing and especially in the manner he did but at least he has the millions in his bank account to comfort him, all the fans have is overdrafts and a hangover.

I stopped reading after 'one-sided beatdown'.

Haye's performance before, during & after the fight has shredded his reputation for me. I read that when asked if he would take on Vitali he replied, "I don't have a beef with him." WTF?? :o What's that got to do with it?

If he does fight on he should adopt some humility and let his fists do the talking.

crazy aint it.

wlad won most rounds but i wouldnt even say it was a dominant performance...you're talking a few punches landed more per round than haye at best.

That's about the size of it.

By all means, Haye's critics are entitled to their pound of flesh, but let's not get fu*king creative with it.

It was a fight decided by jabs. Haye landed the hardest shots of the fight, came out of it wearing less of the fight on his face than Wlad did, made it the full 12 rounds and wasn't visibly hurt at any point in the fight.

Wlad was in control and never had to do more than he was already doing, because he was winning. Haye was miles behind and he knew it, but he was unable to do anything about it. Wlad was not tested at all so it was definitely a dominant performance. He never had to get out of his comfort zone because Haye was clueless and unable to push him back.

The Haye team basically thought that Wlad would run backwards across the ring cowering against the ropes every time Haye threw at him. When that didn't happen there was no plan B. In that case the tactics were poor. Haye kept going on beforehand about how Wlad is unable to adapt like he is. As it turned out Haye was the one unable to adapt and the result and manner of it was a huge embarrassment for him.

Wlad looked the boss all night long for me. Haye seemed to think winging 1 or 2 bombs would get the job done. Wlad was very dominant even if it wasn't a classic 'beat-down'. Haye's desperate excuse making and desire to save face indicate to me that he knows he was dominated.

Did you watch the fight? If not, have you seen the scorecards?

At what point did Haye - in any way, shape or form - look like he might gain momentum and win this fight?

In my opinion it was a clinic, from start to finish, and I wanted Haye to win. I thought he would TKO Wlad, you've read that.

Appreciate the comments, positive and negative....

bit pretentious? why never explain? is there some sort of journo's guild on here?

i liked the piece captain hook wrote but it wasnt a beatdown nor a clinic. wlad used his presence to scare haye, which he did, thus wlad only had to use the 1-2 sparingly. both landed few punches per round.

classic beatdowns would include Hagler v Hearns, Chavez v Rosario etc. classic clinics could include fights such as Calzaghe v Lacy, Leonard v Hagler. dont think haye v wlad falls in either catagory to be honest.

Have your own opinion by all means, I for one welcome it, but jeez...

Let King Geedorah deal with Bad Mamma Jamma, sure he's typing away now in response....

Close and controversial? Yes.

Classic clinic? Hardly.

Yes Wlads face was pretty beat up, is that what he would class as a pizza face? Plenty close rounds but apparently Haye was dominated and humbled in front of the eyes of the world.

Haye didn't leave it all in the ring.

He'll forever know that himself.

And likely be the first to admit it. Afterall he's only human.

Haye never looked like winning - he landed a few big shots but Wlad took them and when this was clear Haye was fuked because he seemed to have no strategy other than landing one big shot. Big shots that were wide and easy for Wlad to see coming at that. He had one plan that was shown early on to be ineffective, from that point his limitations were made clear and Wlad bossed the fight. Haye was dominated and was humbled, his frankly embarrassing post fight behaviour - standing on a table in flip flops ffs - says it all.

... embarrassing "psychological games" all the way to the ring... Sven Ottke kind of fight with about a dozen of "touch-downs" in 12 rounds and pitifull post-fight excuses...says it all...

I was always realistic about Davids chances and i don`t think the performance was as bad as the football writers are making out.The toe excuse was ill timed and ill judged,it just gave ammunition for the critics to go over the top.If he was humble in the build up and was humble after, the press would of said it was a brave gallant display like they did for Bruno back in the day.The performance was better then any of Wlads recent challengers and he took some punches that most of us thought would of knocked him out,but he was not big or good enough for Wlad.Lennox would of smashed Wlad imo.

But he wasn't. He is being judged by the standards he set himself, "brutal execution" etc etc. Being better than Wlad's recent challengers isn't setting the bar very high and is scant consolation given the scorn he poured on them. At the very least I wanted to see him really take it to Wladimir when it was obvious that his tactics of 1-2 bombs from distance wasn't going to work.
