Primetime's Khan-Judah team

They've announced it as Jim Rosenthal and Wayne McCullough in the studio, with Benny Ricardo and Duke McKenzie commentating. I think that sounds promising. Rosenthal was excellent last time round, as was Andy Kerr, who I presume will be working the show in some capacity, and I thought Ricardo and Duke showed potential as a commentary team.

What do you think?

Not a Duke McKenzie fan. Made a few mistakes last time, and made some other silly comments. I'm not too aware of who Ricardo is.

Sounds like a good team, still won't be buying though

I like the fight, as even this late version of Zab has the speed and massive left hook to maybe catch an unsuspecting Khan, so will be paying for it.

Jim is a world class presenter, and that's great news. Benny seemed ok, but obviously defers to Duke, who let's be frank, is still rubbish after all these years. He's got an irritating high pitched voice, and his default setting is cliches all the way.

He's obviously their "safe" choice, but really they should go for someone like Jamie Moore or Matthew Macklin - or Tris Dixon maybe - all excellent.

Has Tris Dixon done commentary? He comes across well in interviews but never heard him do commentary.

Not that I know of, but watching him so far, he looks at ease and confident in his own opinions, and not someone who's too worried about "looking good" for the bosses, and "saying the right thing" - which Duke does: even if it's a rubbish fight, Duke will desperately try to portray it as a brilliant contest.

I know, but it's a different skill, being able to keep talking and calling action live, rather than giving your opinion with no obligation to say more than you need.

Ray Wilkins for example, makes a great pundit IMO but a poor commentator.

Yes but the other guy ( Benny ? ) is the one calling it live, and the Duke role is to be on call during the action to give a little insight. So it's similar to the studio role, you're getting asked or fed the questions by the commentator ( like McCrory, Watt etc )

"It was a close round, so you have to score it for the champ. You always score those rounds to the champ." - Duke McKenzie. :witzend:

Chambers: My thoughts exactly! C5 and Primetime both failed to make contact. That's cool.

Adios.

Good line up for me. Big Jim is a class presenter.

Big Mark: The Ringside front is dead. C5 not making contact was odd, good luck to them. The BBC London show is now in the BBC's top 100 downloads - there are over 600 available. So that is good.

Adios.

Team Khan tried getting Paulie Malignaggi as part of the commentary team but he is on vacation.

I'd rather eat my own faeces than have to witness Khan spouting cobblers for 40 minutes.

benny ricardo and duke mckenzie is a weird team up. ricardo is a bit of an OTT yank.

duke gets a lot of stick but he has an easy going manner, and has done a much better job of it than many other boxers (colin mcmillan comes to mind, heard him on an old broadcast & was terrible).

Duke seems to drink from the same half-empty glass as Watt.

He was praising Bute's 'low slung hands' style, which I thought was a contradiction on his previous comments at other fighters with the same style.

rosenthal is an excellent choice.
i cant understand some of the criticisms of duke mckenzie. he is an excellent play by play man. concentrates on the action and understands the little shifts in a fight..

Getting a previous opponents name wrong, saying a close round should be scored to the champion, irrelevant cliches etc.

Would be great if they gave Jamie Moore a chance. He always sounded very good in interviews.
I also think that Carl Froch would be superb. He done a bit previously - and to be honest - I can`t think of another British boxing pundit/commentator who sounded as good.

Hmm, can't see a current Sky fighter who fights out of the stable run by a significant Sky promotional partner across a range of sports, Matchroom, turning up as a pundit on a rival network to commentate on a fight featuring a fighter who has been openly critical of the stance Sky have taken in refusing to fatten his wallet. I may be wrong though.

Similarly with Jamie Moore, I think he is establishing himself as a regular guest on Sky so I doubt he'd want to risk that by sitting in a studio to discuss the action coming through a grainy (non HD) feed talking to the 4 men and a dog foolish enough to stump up £15 for this fight.
