Looking at the schedules, and I know it has been discussed before..... but it seems confirmed that Maidana vs Guerrero will be for the WBA Light Welterweight title proper - so this is before the result of the Unification bout between Khan and Judah. What happens if Khan vs Judah end up in a draw? Does Khan get stripped?..... Naturally the assumption is that the WBA will promote the Khan/Judah winner as a super champion, Maidana/Guerrero winner as the "normal" champion - but maybe its a tad risky to state this before the unification bout takes place..... it must be a horrible feeling for a fighter who unifies who knows the next day its not going to stay that way. At least the Klitchsko's had a couple of days of celebrating before the WBA announced a potential ordinary title fight.... it just makes a complete mockery of fighters achiving their unification dream.

Then there is the added confusion of McCloskey who apparently is fighting for the interim title a fortnight after the WBA title proper between Maidana and Guerrero takes place.... Interim tiles are supposed to be if there is an injury etc.... are the WBA anticipating an injury???

Bizarre and damn right wrong. Conning the fans, and sadly cons the fighter...... Marcos Madana has been nursing on that interim title since 2009 - he had his shot it took him 15 months to get his first shot, and a further 10 months to get his second.... so much for it being an immediate title fight.

Any excuse for more fees.

There should only be 1 world champ. Get rid of super champ and get rid of interim champs as well. WBA are making their title worthless.

it should just be the champ and whoever is number1 contender gets the shot plain and simple,it should be like this with all the belts.
there will never be one title in a single division thats says this the champion cause there is too much money to be made. if i were the promotors id have titles like toprank title for arum,king title for don , network title for frank, matchroom title for hearn and golden title for goldenboy this way the top guys from the company can fight the top guys from another company and the winner gets the titles that way we have the best guys fighting the best from two different promotors on a joint promoted show fuk all thes wba,wbc,ibf,wbo,ibo,iba,wbu,wbf and so on and so on and so on

Al it needs is a high profile boxer or two to tell the WBA to 'do one' and then that will set the wheels in motion I reckon

Na, Mayweather told them to get stuffed before the Mosley fight.

Start a campaign as the fans to only recognise one title per weight division.
Refuse to pay into or for events titled as "world championship boxing" unless its the chosen sanctioning body.

Surely theres enough people on this site alone to make it worthwhile.

Mayweather isn't the best example, seen as though he was probably doing it for the money.

He'll probably be paying Sillyman a few quid come September mind.

He did the right thing, but for the wrong reasons.

The trouble is, a reduction in the number of titles is only beneficial to the fans..... we see some pretty ordinary fighters earn big bucks as a result of these paper titles don't we?

All the examples will be boxers that don't need belts.

If it's the only belt they can get, noone will do it out of principle.

Its a lovely idea but it doesn't have legs. I got into a little discussion on CS about Austin Trout and Brandon Rios. Both decent fringe level contenders who hold WBA 'Normal' Belts in divisions where there is a Super Champ. My protestations that they shouldn't be recognised as champs was dismissed as naive and ignorant of the paper belt situation, especially while there are many other champions holding belts who may be viewed as less worthy (apparently Ricky Burns fits in this category).

When us supposedly knowledgeable fans can't tell a true champ from a paper one, maybe it's time to give up and go home?

Personally I only consider someone as a champ if they have proved it by beating the existing belt holder, by beating the best available candidate for a vacant belt (or defended previously won vacant belt against best candidate) or by unifying following award/capture of a vacant title.

Example belt holding non-champions include Nathan Cleverly (awarded vacant title and defended against top-15 contender at best), Dmitri Sartison, Gennady Golovkin, Austin Trout, Julio Cesar Chavez Jnr, Brandon Rios (all titlists with a Super/Diamond belt holder above them), Saul Alvarez (won vacant title and defended against fringe contenders rather than top level ones - maybe a little harsh on Ryan Rhodes there, but it's my system and my rules!), Steve Cunningham (won vacant title and defended against fringe level)

Seems fair. I run a semi-linear subjective best man in the division system.

there should only be one champion in each weight division simple as that for me the wbc title should be the top belt and if i were a boxer that would be the world title i would want fornicate the rest
