Atlas wins hands down in McCoys legendary big humble opinion!

Hell, it's refreshing to hear a guy who really knows his stuff, & doesnt seem to show bias towards any fighters he analyses

He also seems respectful to fighters, & doesnt pull any punches(hey, just ask that Production crewman Teddy laid out :) ) when he is commentating on a mismatch, as he once again showed last Saturday night on the Taylor/Rios fight & the undercard fights too

When Davaryll Wiiliamson defeated Robert Wiggins last year Wiggins was fighting with the 'turtle' defence, and in Teddy's tips(basically Teddy telling us what to watch out for in the fight) Teddy said "Williamson's gotta make soup of the turtle" How can you not love this guy?

Dont know about you cats, but McCoy would prefer to listen to Teddy than Ian'I am one bias human being' Darke & Glenn 'The Echo' McCrory or any other of our commentators anyday

Atlas is an opinionated know-it-all who'd likely get very irritating if you had to listen to him all the time, which is probably why fighters don't stay with him long!
But like you say McCoy, how can you not like the guy?!
He's so honest - the TV suites must feel like he's a bit of a loose cannon on their hands at times, which is no bad thing.
He certainly knows his stuff, and anyone who faces down Tyson like that gets my vote everytime.

There was an excellent long interview with him recently over at maxboxing. He tells of the strange relationship he had with his father and his time with Cus D'Amato.

For me, Ian Darke is the best boxing commentator ever.

Seriously. He makes me laugh & tells it like it is. He's pretty biased towards British fighters, but what can you do? Everybodies biased in a way.

I like Teddy aswell, did anyone see that HBO show analysing Holyfield vs Tyson 1. Sky showed it as part of the rematch build up. Atlas was brilliant then.

My favourite analysits type commentator is/was Gill Clancy, I used to love Dr Freddie Pachecco in the interviews.

I love to see Holdsworth and Atlas team up, of course it is unlikely - but two guys who tell it like it is, it would be one big moanathon.

I must admit, I've not really heard Atlas much, but I do believe he's an excellent commentator (and he stood up to Tyson when it might have made a difference to the behaviour of the future heavyweight champion, had Cus sided with Teddy). The only trouble with American commentators is they don't believe in allowing viewers to make their own minds up on events because they don't stop talking. And most American-TV networks have three of them rabbiting away at ringside, making it even worse.
Darke commentated on Premiership football matches before switching to boxing and is the consummate pro.

It was a good ESPN with Atlas recently, he was in the corner for an undercard fighter - so he wasn't commentating. After the fight, he was back in the box. He wasn't too pleased with his fighter, although he won well.

He was disagreeing with many things the stand in had said.

I'd like it if Darkie and Atlas commentated together.

Atlas is a funny man.

What annoys me about Atlas is that if i guy wins he always make`s out that he knew the magic formula, that he pointed out the way for the guy to win when often he hasnt.

I love the way Dempsey keeps butting in on barry and jim all the time, pure comedy..Im sure ive seen Jim Watt mumbling profanities after bieng cut off in his prime.

I don't think he's that good, not bad but you point out his worst point yourself. At least all the American guys will speak about what both fighters are doing in the ring, Darke gets excited when the home guy's doing well and just blathers when the shoe's on the other arm, it's very offputting, particularly if you're trying to score a fight a it hapens as some of us are wont to do.
McCrory should do his job and keep Darke on his toes, I'd like to see McGuigan replace him, or better yet a three man commentary team.

I hate to disagree with the distinguished McCoy but feel Atlas is one of the most annoying types of commentators - a Shouter!

He is also guilty IMO of jabbering. He is pretty astute though and reads fights really well - it's hard to see why he has made such poor picks over the years - Michael Grant?

Jim Watt is the Don.

Always right on the money, when he gets excited you know you are witnessing a decent contest and he is reasonably unbiased, which incidentally is an over-rated quality for a commentator IMO - you make your own mind up what is happening on screen, all you want is someone to help you notice the finer points and enhance your appreciation.

Hey Lugh, so what you are trying to tell McCoy is that Jim watt is a Don & Teddy Atlas is a Hardon?

No doubt Teddy likes to shout, him & Max Kellerman seem to have competitions on who can shout loudest, & it makes for funny viewing!

But Teddy does know his stuff, even if he does come across as a bit of a lunatic at times, & tells it how it is, & gets McCoys respect(hey, this post is turning into a damn godfather movie!)

Jim Watt on the other hand is a decent commentator, but McCoy laughs at how he always tells you at the end of a fight how his pre-fight analysis was right in a tricky sort of way, even when his analysis wasnt :)

Watching Jim & Barry sitting in the Studio though is hilarious, both guys talk sense but McCoy cant help but enjoy the way both guys sit like statues with their hands clasped in identical poses with smug grins on their faces, & thats before they start trying to talk over the top of each other, like our very own version of Teddy & Max!
