and this is no slight on nicky cook who has been a great fighter and credit to the sport he has nothing to be ashamed of.....more a slight on the BBBC & SKY who must have known Cook was ill and unfit to fight

Cook may well have been injured and covered it up, and the BBBoC may well have not given him a vigorous enough medical that tested the condition of his back. But I can also believe that Cook was abosultely fine through camp, any medical and even the ring walk, and his back just 'went' (or his sciatica flared up, whatever his actualy problem is) in the ring, because it's happened to me, and I've seen it happen to others.

Hey, I'm as quick to label the BBBoC a bunch of clowns as anyone, mainly because they can be a bunch of clowns, but I'm prepared to give 'em the benefot of thr doubt on this one, pending further info coming to light.

Cook was in great shape, you can't get in that sort of shape without going through a proper training camp, he was ready to fight but shit happens, one of those things.
There is no one to blame here. Robert Smith was completely right there is no need for sensationalism.

I know that looked a bit funny , & nicky does have a bad back. But , & I know from experience, when one of them body shots hit that floating rib , you just can't fight on. The back prob could well give cookie a viable excuse , but he just got caught . It might not have looked a particularly big shot but, trust me. They really hurt.

I'm sorry anyone who starts moaning about that fight is an absolute muppet! You could see Nicky was in agony. Confirmed he had a slipped disc. Hang your heads in shame sky commentators, supporters etc who questioned Nicky Cook. It was a freak injury. No one moaned at Benn when he did his ankle against Collins did they? Some people haven't got a clue.

I think what people might be saying is...was the injury likely to happen? What state was his back in before he stepped through the ropes? Does a BBBoC medical look for things of this type or is it just general weight and fitness?

Well depending on what medicals involve but I doubt they involve full body MRI to pick up every little problem. You could see him twist, he was in agony. Slipped discs are not injuries that you have, train with and fight with. They generally happen just like that, freak injuries. Having a bad back and living with it is one thing, having a slipped disc is another.

The bottom line is Cook shouldnt have been in there in the first place. Surely there are other fighters in the world more deserving of a world title shot than a guy with only a few rounds under his belt in 2 years. It turned into the farce it deserved to be.

Not true more often than not you have symptoms.

This was a 'WBO title', and a allegedly one at that.

Are any of you surprised it was a farce and a complete mismatch?

How many times have we seen this happen now?

These are not world championship level fighters and this is not world class boxing.

Most slipped discs occur as 'freak' occurrances and without prior symptons. Being in a job where I see people with slipped discs most happen when people are doing 'normal' things. You don't have prior symptons. Having a bad back is not a sign that you will get a slipped disc. In fact most people I see have never had back problems in their life prior to slipping a disc.

you're right dt jenkins a slipped disc can happen at any time whatsoever more often than not when training........it happened to me, but its more likely to happen to that extent when u already have/had back problems. In Cooks case he had back troubles for 2 years......no slight on cook , who again like i say took the job he need the money, he had the pedigree, he thought he might be ok and able to fight on a level playing field health wise....sadly he was wrong, though it did seem burns ttargeted his back which fair play he was entitled to do.

The betting patterns were an indicator of what was going to happen. I believe prior to the fight people knew behind the scenes Cook was already done.

found out about 2 hours before the fight that cooks back was fucked so anything else people come up with is wrong, should have his purse stripped imo a proper disgrace to boxing him getting into the ring like that :shame:

Tried to get a bet on Burns on points about 7 bells. Coral refused due to suspicious betting patterns. Cook is a fornicating dog. Michael Hunter stopped him in the ams. Knocked
Him out. If he opens a bar in Tenerife I'll shit on his menus. He's a fornicating dog. And his dad is bald as fornicate.

Yes, IF Cook knew his back was in real trouble in the buildup to the fight then his purse should be stripped. Otherwise he's taking the fans hard-earned money knowing he had little chance of the back standing up to 12 hard rounds.

I dont agree with people saying its a freak accident - the fact he was getting medical attention in the leadup to the fight on his back must indicate there were concerns there and his back wasn't 100% stable. There is obviously a chance anyone can slip a disc at any time but someone struggling with chronic back issues must be more likely. Again, were the people piling money on Burns in rounds 1-3 predicting a freak accident or knowing about back problems?

And he only lasted 5 seconds FFS! :shame: I might have had a bit more sympathy if it went in the 7th round or something.
