I usually bet big on boxing and tonight i had a 1 thousand pound acca on

burns ko/tko
mitchell win
gavin ko/tko
bellew tko

it would have netted me 14k but the last two let me down and i thought they were the sure things, :(

Anyhow i went in to william hill tonight around 7.30 pm to put a single of 2k on burns stoppage and a bet on burns rounds 1-3 and 4-6, it was 11/8 it had now been backed in to 8/11 and betting had been suspended due to large bets on burns stoppage and burns early. whole thing stinks rotten.

Maybe Cook hurt his back warming up earlier and the news got out?

Can't blame Cook for still going out and trying if this was the case. After his inactivity he'd be lucky to get another shot if he pulled out injured for what now looks like being his last pro fight

maybe, the guy in the shop said there was big bets being places all over london, and a few in glasgow so maybe the word got out, but that was beyond a joke and to think ricky went through a full camp and diet for that.

In my opinion things like this are seldom coincidence. A lot of suspicious betting patterns through the day. I actually thought that Cook wouldn't go through with it because it was too obvious. I had the utmost respect for Nicky, he's been a great pro throughout his career. It's a hard game and he or someone close to him clearly thought they'd make a bit of dough out of this. Whether the injury was genuine or not (because i'd seen the price plummet through the day at work I am now in doubt) I guess we can't blame him for wanting to get paid. As a punter I'm sick though as I actually thought he had a good chance of beating Burns and staked accordingly. Either way I don't buy that is is a freak injury as FW (not for one minute suggesting he knew) and the board seem to think. The betting patterns indicate otherwise. People talked about Audley having his purse withheld against Haye, well tonight whether the injury is genuine or not this is more of a disgrace.

Why are people saying the injury might not of been genuine?? It was obvious he was in pain,i done mine running across the road once&was in agony,Cooks just unlucky his happend in prob the biggest night of his life...

I work in the betting industry and have done for 13 years and whilst I love boxing it isn't an overly popular sport with the punters. The betting patterns and the way the prize on Burns to win by KO and the early individual rounds plummetted was very 'irregular' for a fight of this type. He looked in agony he may well of been in agony but if he did the chances are that he or certainly someone that knew him profited handsomely from being in the know about it. Now for all those punters that had faith in him that backed him is that really fair? Going into a fight without any intention of actually winning it? Is that fair on all the fans that paid for their ticket and that travelled up to Liverpool to support him? As I say Nicky has been a credit to the sport throughout his career, from what i'm told he's a great guy out of the ring too. But I don't think he should be given any less of a hard time than Audley vs Haye for this as he and someone in his camp clearly knew he wasn't going to last past 3 rounds.

He's not unlucky at all - Sky said he's been seeing doctors in the run up to the fight to try and deal with his chronic back issue (which had contributed to his inactivity). If his back was that bad he shouldn't have taken the fight on. The fact it only lasted 5 seconds shows that it would never have lasted 12 rounds. That was supposed to be a 'world' title fight that fans had paid lots of money and travelled long distances to see.

As for the betting, I also thought it was a bit strange. There was the talk of big money going on Burns early on the day of the fight and then news afterwards that a few people have been aware that Cook's back was pretty bad leading up to the fight. I wouldn't want to accuse anyone of doing anything untoward (and certainly not the fighters or trainers) but it does all seem a little bit strange.

I do agree he shouldnt have a the chance of the fight if his back is that bad,but he must have got thru the training camp...
