I think I remember reading something about him making a comeback at 50 fairly recently. I'm not sure if he fought or not. He has had a long war with drugs.

There is a book called "Facing Tyson" (rip off of the book Facing Ali, and not a good one). The best part of the book was the author describing trying to set up and interview with Mitch Green. I am bored so I will type a few of the funnier parts of his dealings with "Blood".
I dial Mitch Green's number and while it seems like there is an answer, all I hear is noise in the background. I recognize the sound of rap music. I hang up and seconds later my phone rings. I explain the concept of the book. He says he wants to get paid for the interview because I am going to get rich for the book. I explain I won't be getting rich and I would like to buy him lunch and let him tell his side of the story. "Lunch? Shit! You gonna get rich and I get nothing!"
Green fought once in 2002 for something called the World Boxing Syndicate Heavyweight Title, beating Danny Wolford who had lost 94 times.
He showed up at Madison Square Garden for the Golden Gloves and of course all hell broke lose. During intermission the ring announcer called up champs and celebrities into the ring. "Is there a Mitch Green in the house?" All the announcer had to do was mention his name and Green bounded into the ring, bouncing around shaddow boxing from post to post. "Mitch Green as you know fought Mike Tyson twice. Once going the distance in the ring and once in the street." Green screamed at him. The announcer continuued "And both times he lost!" Green then grabbed the microphone and started yelling, "and new!...and new!"....referencing his world Boxing Syndicate Heavyweight Title.
During further phone conversations Mitch had some other "funny" lines: "Iron Mike? Shit. They ought to call him cotton Mike. He ran from me for 12 rounds (fight was only 10 rounds).
"Don King. Shit. They ought to call him Don Queen."
The author also notes that Green has had his drivers license suspended 54 times.
(Parenthetically, the other funny part of a rather terrible book. Golota wants no part of the book so the author calls Golota's trainer. When he tells the trainer what the book is about, the trainer responds, "That is your problem. You mentioned Mike Tyson. He probably pissed his pants.")

Very good hand speed, up there with a Tubbs, or Holmes.Could take a tremendous shot, was a top 5 heavyweight at the amateurs for most of his amateur career.Just didn't probably have the top notch boxing skills needed to suceed, but his biggest problem was drugs.Was a Tomorrow's Champ with Tony Tucker, but left Lou Duva to go with Don King, which in part also hurt his career.Great Chin, reportedly never down as an amateur or pro.

Green had the potential for something more than being a headcase, that is for certain. Prior to fighting Tyson I believe he was on a syndicated boxing show called Tomorrow's Champions, and had quite the amateur record and was being groomed for bigger and better things. When he met Tyson, it all went down the tubes. If I could make a comparison in a sense, it was a match much like Marciano and Vingo, someone was gonna go up, and someone was gonna go down the ranks. It was a boring fight to say the least, but Green was but one of two guys to go the distance with Tyson when Mike became champion years later and that was the draw (in part) to a rematch following the scuffle on the streets. He damn near talked his way into a title shot too, only problem was Green wasn't ranked. All he had to do was beat a man in the top ten, and he would have had his multi-million dollar pay day with Tyson. He refused, and weeks later when the hooplah was over with he got into a dangerous altercation with the cops, screaming his head off about Mike Tyson and had to be tasered. I remember his 'comeback' in the late 1990s (I think thats when it happened), and from what I remember it was only done because of a joke or novelty because the guy was down on his luck, cracked out, down to peanuts and because he was such a comical character on television interviews, someone put him in a 'title' fight. I think FSN was in on it, because it happened not long after he did an interview on that show that he won that 'title'. In a way, he made Ike Ibeabuchi look like a choir boy; Green was the headcase of all headcases.
