it would be lovely for Mick to get a contract with channel 5, perhaps one show every 3 months as mick builds up his stable of fighters again, surely terrestrial tv would attract them. and while we are at it, give buncey a fortnightly boxing hour on channel 5..........please.

Just read an article where Mick said Fury's next fight will be on Channel 5 and that 5 or 6 fights on terrestrial TV would make Fury a 'house hold name'.

Saturday's fight was on terrestrial television, and Fury's promoter Mick Hennessey believes his fighter's exposure will add to his appeal.

"We have a situation where we have options, but his next fight is going to be on Five," said Hennessy.

"I've noticed non-boxing people talking about this fight, talking about Tyson Fury. He's been getting recognised in the street by non-boxing people.

"If we have about five or six outings on terrestrial TV he's going to be a household name for sure."

After almost 2 years in the wilderness, boxing came back to terrestrial television with a bang last night with Tyson fury on Channel 5, courtesy of Hennessy Sports.Mick Hennessy deserves so much credit for bringing boxing back to the masses,rumours are circulating that viewing figures were in excess of 3 million.

Seventeen months ago the future looked bright for John Murray after he took Jon Thaxton apart on the last terrestrial boxing show that was shown on ITV.How ironic then a week after Murray crashed spectacularly against Kevin Mitchell under new promoter allegedly,Mick Hennessy rose from the ashes like a phoenix on Channel 5.

Imagine the scenario,John Murray,Carl Froch,Darren Barker and Tyson Fury the stars that Hennessy has been cultivating for the last 9 years (in the case of Froch) fighting exclusively on Channel 5 bringing boxing back to the masses what could the possibilities have been?

After 2 European title fights Junior Witter fought Lovemore Ndou in a WBC eliminator and became mandatory for the title,Froch jumped straight from British and Commonwealth level to WBC World Title fight and has never looked back.How unfortunate then that the Super Six finale ends in Atlantic City , instead of the glamour and glitz of Las Vegas,and many believe that Ward beats him.If Froch had remained loyal I am sure that Channel 5 would have been an ideal springboard to relauch his career to a whole new audience if indeed Ward does beat him.

And what of Darren Barker? equally as talented as Froch but instead of following the same tried and tested route as his predecessor it seems he will trudge the well worn path of fighters such as Michael Jennings,Gary Lockett (both like lambs to the slaughter),Ryan Rhodes and Matthew Hatton who entered into World Title fights that they had a far greater chance of losing than winning.
After Macklin getting beat in Germany it would have been an ideal fight for Barker to take a smaller safer step towards being World Champion,instead Martinez will probably end his career.Which is a shame because stablemate Howard Eastman for all his faults waited patiently and became mandatory, netting himself at least a million dollars against Hopkins if not the title,how much is Barker getting for a potentially career ending fight,100 grand? peanuts really.

The whole production on last nights show was excellent,with the fight going out live to Canada and America what a great idea by Mick Hennessy to get Al Bernstein on the team, very knowledgable and gave it a big show feel, a refreshing change from listening to McCrory and McGuigan.

Its been a tumultuous year for Hennessy,O Donnell getting beat by Watson then Purdy,Barker and Froch jumping ship but have they jumped too soon maybe they should have shown the same amount of loyalty Hennessy gave them,it paid off for Tyson Fury last night once again

Mick is still stuck.

His only real fighter is Fury. Not enough to get regular fixed dates with C5 and without the TV it's difficult to get a stable. Still not sure where he goes from here, unless C5 is willing to make a huge investment but I can't see that happening off the back of 1 night of boxing.

Anyway, which boxers could he realistically pick up? He had a cracking stable 12/18 months ago but unfortunately I can't see those days returning for him.

I guess he could see what materialises from the Olympics next year but he won't get the best as they'll go with Warren or Matchroom.

The leftovers like Tony Jeffries won't be enough for him or C5 in my opinion.

This is the type of crap that irritates me.

Maybe,but lets not forget Hennessy took a risk and out bid Warren,so with enough fire power(cash) and the connections he has,big fights can be made even if they are not his fighters.

Good on him if anyone deserves a break this fella does!

I was there last night it was half empty. Fights started to early then there was long gap before Theophane v Cook fight.

Are you crazy, his phone must be off the hook at the moment with fighters wanting to join or jump ship from another promoter.

How can you compare 2.5 million viewing figures on 5 to say 60 to 100000 whatever it is on Sky.
For any fighter who is good enough to become a star this is a no brainer !!!

He needs to convince them to show undercards in future, but with 20x the audience of Sky Saturday fight night I imagine that will be an attractive proposition.

I was there and it was one of the smoothest shows I've ever attended.

Short breaks between fights - all fights went to programme except one was shortened to 4x3. Big screens, replays, beer in the arena and swift entry. View was good.

Only niggle, they fkked up Audio on Tyson's ring entrance.

Well matched card, good fights, music between rounds in early fights.

Top of the bill was a smashing scrap that ebbed and flowed.

I hope Hennessy can scrape his stable off the floor and recover and in CH5 he may just drop lucky, he deserves some.

£3 for a programme.

But fkk me £7 for Chicken Burger and Chips and £4.50 a pint. You Southerners know how to spend bloody money.

No wonder they were on the toot in the bogs at 6.30pm. Cheaper than getting pissed.
