Could Arnold Cream, on his best night, find a way to take Smoke?

I think he could. A 12-rounder would give him a good shot. Thing is, Frazier was faster than Marciano, & for mine, a little better-suited to tackling the boxer types. Then again, Walcott himself was faster & stronger when he was fighting Louis. He was already over-the-hill for the Marciano fights.

I think I would have to favour Frazier. One thing Ali had which Walcott does not is amazing durability, & that could be a problem here. Walcott was trickier to hit & slipperier overall than 1971 Ali, though. He had more unconventional tricks which I do feel would find some success against Frazier. I'd like to see it.

My feeling is Frazier turns his lights out at some point, probably mid-to-late. Walcott may edge a decision, though.

JJW would throw every trick in the bag at Frazier and it would be interesting, but in the end the relentless pressure prevails.

I see it going 9. Walcott might want out of there at some point.

p.s. Your point about Frazier being faster and better-suited to tackling the boxer types compared to the Rock is spot on.

I'm a big Walcott fan and think he's under-rated by many who glance at his record, see the losses, and then jump to conclusions, but I think Frazier has the perfect style to break the slickster down.

I, personally, also am a big fan of Walcott but I think Frazier gets to him.

Joe had extremely underrated ring smarts and amazing ring generalship. He could outpoint Frazier, for sure.

Could Walcott have beaten Frazier? Certainly he could have... I believe that he had the tools to do it.
Walcott could keep his distance and use his jab with his slick boxing skills to nothc the points up. And if he could see out the late rounds, he would win on unanimous decision.

In this fight, the main emhasis is on Joe Frazier to hunt Walcott down to hurt him and go for the knockout.

Hehe agree, his standing square on, and jinking / turning ever so slightly, left or right to make them miss, took guts and a lot of confidence.

Like I said, great skills.

As I see it, Frazier was way to hard and strong for Walcott. It could be something like the Frazier - Doug Jones fight.
