Is it me, or is Danny Williams doing an awful lot of bad-mouthing as his third showdown with Michael Sprott approaches. Danny is now saying Sprott is "terrified" of him. I wonder. It seems to me the one with the most to say is normally the one feeling the most pressure.

I've been saying this for a while........DW has got this new 'attitude'. He talks trash and fights dirty, lets just hope he can back it up because he'll be the one who looks like an idiot if he gets beat again and then changes trainer/promoter 4 or 5 times in a year!!!

I noticed that!! I think he is trying to get himself up for things again after the Sam fight.

I am having trouble picking the winner for this fight although im edgin towards Williams....Why i dont know.

I'm having real trouble picking a winner. Beginning to lean towards Sprott. I just wonder if Danny is past his best...

The trouble with sprott is, he has never gone past the 8 rounds and i question sprotts stamia. I think sooner or later williams will get him

I definately think Dannys past his best but still feel he will have just enough to win this one in a tight fight.

Incidentally, does anyone know how Danny's sparring went with Matt Skelton?

This fight is almost impossible to call, several times a day I change my mind.

Danny does appear to be trying to psyche himself, not a bad idea if you ask me seeing as he's been so lacklustre in fights lately.

I'm still not convinced that Sprott cannot hurt Danny, he wasn't sitting down on his punches in the 1st few rounds, and that shot he hit the Irish lad with was really amazing. Colin Kenna, that's it. Now I know Danny is a bigger lad, but we've seen him hurt before now, and I think that Sprott is a dark horse, and we may get to see him lay into Danny.

There's going to be so much needle for this bout, I may even buy a ticket and go and see it.

Can only see one result - Williams by stoppage.

Even if DW is on he slide he still has this one left in the tank.

there isn't usually a third contest if the same fighter lost the first 2 fights?

Terrible Terry Norris lost two by dsq, before winning the third by KO - that's the nearest I can think of...
When boxers fought each other 10 times 60 years ago it might've happened I guess.

Williams will surely win this 3rd fight by knockout...

That was the instance I was referring to MW - well done. I really should have put 'inside the distance' rather then stoppage in the Q though.

The point I was looking to make still stands though - rarely does a fighter finish on his back,looking up at the lights, TWICE and then come back to defeat his conqueror.

Sprotts style (movement) and the fact that he has had to beef himself up way above his natural weight means his stamina is lacking like some have already mentioned.
Danny looks like 15 rounders wouldnt be a problem

Great knowledge Bennie. Those two warriors made for some great matches in the 70s..

True, Sprott does have to expend a lot more energy with his style.

He started his career at 211 though, so I'm not sure he's that bulked up, he looked bigger than I'd seen him before in the last fight though, and he was 226.

Sprott doesn't have a big frame though, he's a small man by heavyweight standards.

I thought Danny looked very ponderous last time out though, and he looked sluggish in his previous two fights, very low workrate.

And Danny seems to have lost his speed. He always had fast hands for a big man, but not any more it seems.

That's right, he used to have pretty amazing handspeed, kind of reminiscent of Riddick Bowe in that regard, though not quite that kind of power. When he fought Shawn Robinson (admittedly a dire opponent), over in the states, I remember being impressed with how fast and accurate his punching was.

I hadn't thought about that, he does look a lot slower, but then that could be all the weight he's shuffling about with. He looks terribly flat-footed lately.

The thing in his favour, is the fact that Sprott doesn't take a body shot well though, I seem to recall that a lot of his stoppage losses came as a direct or indirect result of shots to the body.

Having a small frame like he does, he doesn't have the mass to absorb the body shots.

True. He lost his unbeaten record to Harry Senior on a body shot, literally collpasing to the canvas from a hard - but not great - right uppercut to the body. Corrie Sanders also did him with a body shot. Pele Reid floored him twice, but I'm not sure if they were head shots or not. Does anybody know?

Don't know about the Reid fight bennie, but he unsuprisingly said Sanders is the hardest puncher he's ever met.
Some of those "low blows" Williams hit him with didn't look too low to me, more like waist line.

I just can't believe Williams has slipped that badly, it's not like he's been through the wars. Obviously he has a problem getting his mind right for certain fights, but he defintely has the mental edge over Sprott in this one.

I have this fight on tape (thanks again to Lightsoot for this...) and Pele puts him down with head shots in a real ol' fashioned heavyweight tear up.
No shame in this at all, as one thing Pele always had was a heavy dig.

Wayne Llewellyn took him out with one shot too didnt he!?!? head shot mind you!!

The thing is Sprott got up from the canvas twice againts Pele to win.
