Hopkins v Haye?

I see that Bernard is calling out Haye again. If he beats Dawson, is there any chance at all of this happening? Before the Wlad fight I would have laughed it off, but if Haye wants to continue then B-Hop could be one of the biggest money fights out there for him.

There's a recent boxrec news article on it as well http://news.boxrec.com/news/2011/bernar ... -just-work

Although the writers suggestion that Haye should drop down to light-heavy might be a bit far-fetched. I think he would have to do more than cut off that troublesome little toe to make weight :oo

Haye would be roundly ridiculed if he took this fight. The risk-reward ratio would render it a ludicrous move on his part. Plus it'd be going to points.

I'd pay to see it to be honest.

Matthew Syed wrote in the guardian what a mismatch it was, but clearly, he doesn't know boxing too well. Hopkins has one hell of a chin, and is cagey as hell. Haye can be hit and hurt.

I don't think the fight should be above 200 though, I cannot see Hopkins adding a futher 25 lbs of bulk and being effective, and the weight discrepancy plus age would be a bridge too far. At 200 Hopkins could probably come in at 190 and be effeective.

You really think so?

Haye has a lot of flaws that Hopkins could exploit. Bernard isn't stupid, he's only talking about the fight because he sees weaknesses. Haye isn't on Hopkins level skills wise, and that's what evens it up. I think I'd make Haye favourite, but not by a great deal.

If Jean Pascal can put Hopkins over...Haye certainly can.

He only manage to put him over in the first fight, and he couldn't keep him there. He was dominated from there on in.

Haye telegraphs his punches a lot more than Pascal, I can see Bernard making him miss an awful lot.

I'm not saying Hopkins will win, but people are talking like this is an utter mismatch. I dont think it is.

What Legacy? Let`s be honest here. Haye`s best wins are against Mormeck and Fragomeni, not exactly the stuff that legacies are made of.

Maccaranelli, Harrison, Monte barret and an old John Ruiz are not exactly top notch wins.

When he fought real world class at Heavyweight in Klitschko, he was handlily outpointed.

I see no legacy to speak of really. Yes he unified the Cruiserweight division, but the division was not exactly packed with talent. Look at the people he has actually fought and if the best two wins are mormeck and Fragomeni, then it really isn`t that much to shout about.

I think Haye is only interested in money TBH.

As good as Hopkins is, he gets stopped quite badly in this one if it happened (which I can't see). Haye is a murderous puncher at cruiserweight and Hopkins would be going up quite considerably in weight.

If Haye hit him he would keep him on the floor.Haye has got tremendous hand speed for a heavy. It's one thing to lose to Wlad, who is huge, with serious punching power and sharp reflexes and another to lose to Hopkins who does not like getting hit.He wouldn't be able to hold with Haye like he normally does.

The only way the fight would happen is if they met at cruiserweight.........

It made sense for Hopkins before Haye lost his heavyweight title, because he has been looking for a smaller heavyweight to fight for years now and he has identified Haye before all the disaster of the Klitschko fight. There is no gain in this fight for Haye, because he has to come down in weight which he wouldnt be comfortable doing and if he beats Hopkins, then it becomes a " You beat an old man" scenario. The fight makes more sense for Hopkins, because he is on this drive to beat younger fighters and add to his legacy and if he loses its a case of people thinking he was just stretching his own natural boundaries too much. The only way Hopkins loses badly in this fight is if he got knocked out badly, which is a distinct possiblity. I don't believe this fight will ever happen. Haye has to stick to the heavyweight scene and make his mind up about his retiremment and Bernard needs to focus on the Dawson fight and then look towards a cruiserweight shot, which would make more sense for him. I also think that should there be an upset in the Klitschko - Adamek fight, both Haye and Hopkins would then be interested.

A terrible idea for Haye. Hopkins has the nous to grind out a decision in an awful fight. If Haye did KO him, knocking out a 47 year old man who is smaller than him would not rehabilitate his reputation.

I had took my daughters to the hairdresser's yesterday. I got out my Boxing Monthly while I was waiting and it started a conversation. None of the four girls who worked in the shop were what you'd call hardcore boxing fans, but all of them had seen the Wlad fight. One by one they chipped how boring they'd found it. When one of them mentioned the toe excuse they all fell about laughing. Whether he deserves it or not, for the vast majority of the British public, David Haye is a complete laughing stock.

If Haye wants to have any kind of legacy has to fight Vitali, throw caution to the wind and have a proper go. Otherwise, any plans for the celebrity circuit in retirement are doomed.

On a side note, a couple of the lasses in the shop had seen the Tyson Fury fight and said they really enjoyed it.

Terrible fight for Haye which would gain him nothing.
Hopkins should focus on Dawson who I'm sure will be on top of his game after the Pascal loss.

I must be on my own because I think it would be a very good fight for Haye. Exposure in America against an established name. Why not? He needs a coupl of fights before he'll get Vitali, so why not Hopkins?

Money is hayes master and this has cash written all over it.
It would make both men a fortune and haye would have the possibility of beating a legend and then retiring.

Am I the only person who hopes the now very rich Haye forgets about money and just goes for respect in his last fight by moving back down to cruiser and fighting Steve Cunningham? Great fight. Never happen, but great fight.

I don't think any fight apart from Vitali would make the big bucks required and 'if' he did beat Hopkins he would have beat down on a 44 year old LHW which he'd get zero respect for.

Anyway when this fight came up before Dave gave Bernard the respect he deserves but it wasn't down the path he wanted to go. I doubt losing to Wlad has changed that. A Klitchsko or retirement beckons

Silly topic and Hopkins could be seriously hurt. he has absolutely no physical attributes to compete with Haye and hasnt ko'd anyone above middle weight.

It would be a 1 round farce, haye would show him no respect in the ring and brutaly ko hopkins.

Although I have to admit to being curious, I feel it would be a very bad idea for Hopkins to get in the ring with David Haye. At some point Haye would land, and Hopkins would kip. This would be nothing like Roy Jones Jnr v Ruiz, thats for sure.

Don't talk daft man. Hopkins could fight Superman and The Incredible Hulk back to back and still go the distance. Aone round farce - give your head a shake. :shame:

Because Hopkins is a 46 year old LHW (he would be 47 by fight time). Haye would be ridiculed endlessly if he took tthis fight, and things are already bad enough for him.
