‘SUMMER RUMBLE 2’
BOXING fans in the North East are guaranteed another great show when promoter Phil Jeffries stages ‘Summer Rumble 2’ at the Rainton Meadows Arena on September 18.
With the sport booming in the region, and after the success of the first ‘Summer Rumble’ at Sunderland’s Stadium of Light on July 3, fans will again get to see some of the North East’s finest young fighting talent in action. In a further treat, also on the bill will be Darlington’s Chris Burton. The former heavyweight Prizefighter finalist, who has lost just once in 15 fights, will be making his ring-return as a cruiserweight after over two years out of the game.
“This show’s going to be as big, and as good, as the last one which was a sell-out,” stated Jeffries, who is working with Hartlepool trainer and boxing stalwart, Neil Fannan, on the promotion. “We’re really looking to put boxing back on the map in the area and want to emulate places like Liverpool and Manchester as boxing cities. We’ve got so many good boxers up here and it’s great to be able to give them a platform to shine.”
With another successful afternoon of boxing in the offing, Phil’s phone hasn’t stopped ringing, with fighters from every corner of the North East desperate to appear. Confirmed already, alongside the aforementioned Chris Burton, will be Durham stylist Martin Ward who thrust himself into title contention last time out when he beat former European bantamweight champion Ian Napa. Also appearing will be Sunderland banger Jonson McClumpha, South Shields’ entertainer David Lake, Newcastle’s classy Craig Dixon and Mark Clauzel, Hartlepool’s popular Peter Cope, and County Durham prospects Paul Archer and Gary Fox.
“The North East already has one British Champion in Darlington’s Stuart Hall and I’ve got no doubt there’ll be at least a couple of future champions appearing on this show,” concluded Phil. “The last show was a fantastic success and I had to order extra tickets because the demand was so great. All the lads put on terrific performances last time out in some really entertaining bouts and there’ll be more of the same on September 18.”
