Hi all,

just joined this, does anyone from Ireland remember Pat Stapleton, in the 60's, well if you do, was Irish heavy weight boxing champion, I am sad to announce his passing...god bless him, I am his daughter..xx

Really sorry to hear that.

He will be remembered always for his victorious fight with the Sledgehammer Slavin in Belfast.

Leonard, I was just looking at Stapleton's record and judging by that he fought a further nine times after the Slavin victory. Do you know if this record info correct or is it a mistake?

I don't know yet. There were two records for a Pat Stapleton until someone on the BoxRec records section of the forum requested that they should be merged because they were possibly the same person. No evidence was put forward to corroborate that.

I'll try and dig a little more.

I was thinking it looked like the record of two different fighters unless the above mentioned Pat Stapleton made a return to the ring in America six years after his last fight in Kilkenny, which of course is very possible. Obviously the main objection is to find out if Pat Stapleton moved to USA in the sixties. Let me know if you find out anymore info.

hi this is his daughter here, yes he indeed made a return to the ring, after he retired, he fought in middleboro,MA his home town..
