Should there be a separate trade section?

I thought long and hard about this and you know it's funny as this site is like a trade paper and unless you know this in advance then you stand a very good chance of offending a ton of people who work in the actual trade and that's a shame because everyone shouldn't have to be inhibited in their opinions but i do believe strongly this to be the case (judging by the amount of people who back down and change their opinions or just stay silent when they find out they are talking to either a friend or an actual boxer, I could show you posts if so all want) having looked at various posts that boxer or trainers have got involved in.
I think that this should be explained to new members from the off.
For example some one said the trainer Arnie was a dick and I said "he always seemed like a nice guy to me, albeit with mad scary eyes" and someone said "well you don't know him"...there isn't much you can say to this as I don't know the guy, only what i see in interviews.
But i feel that the lines are blurred on here between opinions and concern over offending trade insiders.
Perhaps you guys who run (or the owner John Sheppard) should think about having a trade only private section that so that we (the basic fans) people can speak freely?
I mean (and twenty six wont believe this) I never wanted to offend Ryan Rhodes personally but as a fan i really felt that he could do it and in fact as a younger man would have had a chance as i don't believe (unlike Ryan) that he got better with time,
Now this is a fans opinion but yet I get his mate (who was doing the right thing btw) sticking up for him and got pissed at me for it, but should this have happened when I as a fan paid money watched the fight, was disappointed and wanted to voice it and explain why.
I mean what mother would say their child is ugly and what friend or family member would say that their fighting family or friends skills had slipped on a boxing forum? yet all of a sudden people think that I'm some trade insider with a hidden agenda? I was like "wtf?? and I thought I was paranoid":-)
I mean look at Paul Smith, Frankie Gavin, etc etc..yes they said some mad things (just like me) but shouldn't they just be doing this stuff in a trade only section where it isn't damaging their fan base? why get into it with fans?? it doesn't make sense??
I really think that there should be a separate trade section as there are this on numerous forums where insiders can talk shop without some wee nugget trying to take a pop for no reason (something that i have to admit to being guilty of also but if there wasn't a trade section then it wouldn't have happened) and they usually are hidden sections of the forum.
Boxrec is a great site no doubt about it, and I enjoy the banter (hell even the pelters are well worded most of the time) but perhalps forums with fans and insiders should stay seperate as from what I read there is some great respect toward fighters sometimes and others it's just plain nasty.
I know it's great to interact with pros, trainers etc.. but when it stops you from speaking your mind then it fails as a forum.
I guess what I am trying to say (albeit in a very long winded way that I know I am going to take pelters on here for but I don't care hence the fact I wrote it is this) is this...
I love the writings of Alan Moore but I don't want to know what his shite looks like.
My mate came up with this quote and I think it's a classic...
"never get close to your fans, within half an hour they will think your an asshole, within an hour they will think they can make better music than you"

In my opinion, the best thing about this forum is the blend of "tradespeople", hardcore fans and Terence Dooley....
If you want a fans only forum I'm sure ESB would be a willing facilitator for you, Jon. You have had one or two bad experiences here but the majority of posters from both sides of the square circle are sound, genuine people who can happily hold an opinionated conversation.

Fair point mate but I find ESB to be not as good as Boxrec in terms quality of posts. however it does have slightly better low grade humour, that said the DogPound has no equal when it comes to bottom of the barrel humour (which I love at times, though not at the level that frankie Boyle has recently went to) and the pound also has some realy good people on it as well as some serious nutters, but the opinions regarding fighters, traners etc can be really funny at time plus all the giff pictures are also very funny.

Yep, totally agree. If a punter who posts on here suddenly loses his bottle and retracts a statement on the basis that he is confronted on the forum by a boxer or trade person, then he shouldnt be posting on here in the first.
No need for segration on the basis that some people might be intimidated by being spoken to by people in the trade. I love the fact that I can discuss issues with people in the fight trade on here.

I think my points are fair and rational.
What I find intresting is that no one seems to admit to the fact that clearly some posters are backing down or inhibbited due to the pros, trainers & trade insiders etc..

This isn't about me the post is about people who are intimidated to say what they want to say (you can clealry see that I dont care about sitting on the fence or upsetting anyone who I share a differance of opinion with)
I can see it you can see it, its a fair valid and rational point.
Again simply put, new members may not get the concept of this forum therefore leading to the lack of free speech due to profesional intimitdation, I do think this is a good forum that could be made better thats all, shoot me down if you want people don't like change I get this but i do feel that it is a tad insular and lacking in humour and thats the way i feel, eveyone has the right to an opinion.
PS Hurlock,i'm not looking for fans on here, I want to get into the nitty gritty of boxing without caring about upsetting Carl Froch's grannys cousins sister yada yada...and btw it wasn't my quote it was my mates and its a fuking good one.

To be honest mate I stumbled across this site about 9 months ago and started posting immediately without knowing anybody or anything about the forum. In that time I haven't had any problems whatsoever and have found many familiar names to be posting on here and it's been nothing but a real bonus to read their posts and interact with them.

I wouldn't say it's a fact. Just that some people are less likely to say 'X is a c**t' when he's actually on here, or his pals are.
Inhibition of that kind isn't necessarily a bad thing. But if you think it is, keep the criticism or points coming.
If you don't troll and stick to the rules, say what you like.
I mean, you're not even posting under your real name, no one knows who you are so you shouldn't be that concerned.

Say what you want, and if you can't handle how people react maybe the internet is too dark a place for you.

How would you stop people in the trade reading? We don't know who anyone is and they want to interact with fans. Surely you can just chose whose opinion you respect? Ultimately you can't change what someone else is willing to say.

I'm not concerned Ian, I simply spotted a patern and highlighted it by way of an example (Ryan Rhodes, Arnie, etc etc)
I'm not the type to back down as I believe that everyone is entitled to their say, I just feel that there is way too much tiptoeing around the tulips and that can lead to fans represing opinions.
I'm not trying to upset the key harmonic of the universe here, mearly saying that maybe there should be a 'trade' section to you forum, and (if the trade person does so wish) the people on the inside can talk gym talk etc etc without conern of mad fans insulting them and also fans being also concerned to speak up.

I hear what you are saying, I guess that this site closes the gulf between the fan and the trade insiders but I'm not sure that this is a good thing, it is for some, I they (the trade guys) could read but talk about it on a seprate forum and then decide if its wise to come on and let it all hang out.
It's a conundrum I know but it's also the reason Paul Smith etc might not be back & why some newbies might not want to say things regarding pros, trainers etc on here.
If there was a hidden forum then perhalps the pros like Gavin could get sojme PR advise on it from the likes of Glyn, Ian & co on what not to do, these guys are boxers they can't be exected to understand PR.
Everyone liked Paul smith untill he lost, (I always felt he was a dour faced fat middleweight and said so, and now he's dropping down but I'm not sure that this is the kind of stuff he wants to here as he obviuolsy went into a bit of a depresed internet meltdown)
I just feel that for instance the spat between Fankie & Curtis maybe should have been simply between them without eveyone else jumping at young frankie's ack of PR skills, he's a boxer they can't all be media savy like Mosley or Oscar De La Hoya and I'm suprised tha Warren alows his fighters to post on forums TBH.
he same in turn applies to to the fans who are worried about posting for fear (maybe "fear's" to strong) of upsetting in insider who they tought didnt try hard enough or they just dont like the look or sound of.
It's a wonderfull life.
