Thread about this over on ESB. Kelvin Hall been provisionally booked according to evening times!

Don't think broner is beyond burns at all. Burns was electric against martinez. The problem is his title reign has been an insulting joke to the fans who want to see him fight the best.

I would love to see burns defeat all odds and beat everyone who is put in front of him.

Im not saying it will happen but i would love it as i feel that no-one has given burns the credit he deserves as a world champion. Cant deny that his defences have been poor but he has been britains most active world champion and he has been chasing big fights, just not getting them.

Broner definitely looks dangerous but as the old saying go's "to be the best you've gotta beat the best", lets hope burns can do that........again.

If his next fight is at the Kelvin against a live opponent, the athletics hall would get filled and the atmosphere would be electric!

I'd imagine that getting Fana over will be more likely now that he has been stripped of his title and has less bargaining power at negotiations.

Good match but I don't like the idea of it being for The Ring title. Fana is almost 38, ducked his last challenger, and will have been inactive for over a year by Oct 8, while Burns has defeated only one world class opponent and has made nothing but poor defenses. I think there are several fighters in the division who stand a very good chance against both Burns and Fana, so hopefully the winner of this bout will be open to fighting some of them.

As for the outcome; Burns wins a lopsided decision.

Let's get this straight.

Fana is irrelevant.

He was stripped of his IBF title after he ducked Argenis Mendez.

He was ringside watching Mendez flooring and taking apart Casius Baloyi - a guy who Fana lost to a couple of years ago and it was obvious he wanted nothing to do with Mendez.

Mendez now fights Salgado for the vacant title. Once he wins, that's who they should fight.

So if Burns fought Fana then Broner You'd say he was still picking easy defences?

Kelvin Hall is the business for boxing, the atmosphere is lost in Braehead and the tickets too expensive.
Id pay the £50 for an electric atmosphere in the Kelvin Hall any day of the week. Braehead doesnt merit £25 never mind the £50 they robbed us last time.

Burns v Gomez in bellahouston was rockin aswell because its a sports hall. That was another great night.

That's right he fought Paddy Pollack. We left before that I specifically stayed sober that night so i would remember the whole event! Was pretty pissed off wi the simpson-smith dec mind ye.

Fana is a reasonable name and a fight Burns can win. But Fana brings nothing to the table now.

But if we're being completely honest, shouldn't he be looking at unification as thats what he is talking about ?

I think talk of Broner is premature right now and unlikely to occur.

Broner is over rated. For me, he easily lost the fight against Ponce de Leon, how he got that decision i'll never understand.

Fana as he is now = rubbish fight, brings nothing to the table.

ps: wasn't Mr Warren making remarks about it being too soon for Burns to be unifying when this match was first suggested/mooted a few months back, which would seem strange if he now can meet the exact same man WITHOUT the title on the line.

That's the same date as Kell Brook's next fight i think against Rafal Jackiewicz. That would be on Sky and so would Burns against Fana. Seems one of them will have to be moved, they wont both happen on the same night because both have different promoters and i dont see them doing a split site show.

Unification costs money, fighting a former world-champion, with nowhere else to go will be far LESS expensive. Hence, fight is doable.

Bottom line is the bottom line.

I wonder what happened to the sell out at Airdrie's 10k stadium?!

I would use the roll my eyes icon but I seem to use it all the time now so why bother?

Move up a weight and fight Mitchell instead - thats the fight people want to see.

beleive thats a fight for the future and a fight we'd have no hesitation in taking hopefully with a world title at stake.Kevin is a real nice guy top drawer and he knows Ricky and him would be a real hard fight,people still so underestimate Ricky still!

The whole purpose is The Ring Super featherweight title. I believe they are both ranked in the top 3 therefore could fight for the vacant ring title.

I wouldnt say underestimate - it would be a great fight and one I would rather watch than any of the other Super Featherweights - problem is Billy- Burns is only as good as the people he is in with - Martinez aside (Dont know what he is doing now) the danger is Burns becomes stagnant in the division - move him up and give him great money spinning fights.

Surely he would make more money fighting Mitchell or even John Murray than any other SFW? Warren stable and negotiations should be easy enough as the pot stays in the stable and us fans know what to expect in terms of quality and ability!

don't forget that fana was destroyed by barrera, in ridiculously easy fashion.

good if burns gets unification - but not the greatest unification fight you'll come across.

Theres still big money fights at SFW imo,when we do go up we'd hope to fight for a world title straight away,so heres hoping Kevin can win if he fights Rios then a fight with Kevin could be on.With regards to John hes got to work his way back up and i think he can very very good fighter,only danger is Kevin has shown the blueprint of how to beat John now
