Simmy and Choi were trying to box in september but because John getting married they couldn't get a date. The only date they could get that didn't interfer with Johns wedding was up in Glasgow but don't think choi fancied comming up here. That's what I was told. Sure people closer to the boxers will fill us in.

The problem Spencer has is that Choi isn't eligible for the British, Commonwealth, or European because he isn't a UK citizen.

It's a pity Derry Mathews has moved up in weight, I wouldn't have minded seeing another fight between the two.

If Choi isn't eligible for the British, Commonwealth or EBU it kind of leaves him in a sticky situation. He isn't ranked high enough by any of the major governing bodies to be considered for a title shot. I think the best ranking I seen was circa 30 with the IBO. Our own Pajo Hyland recently won the WBF Title so maybe that could be a possible avenue?

Simpson vs Choi would be some fight if it came off, probably wouldn't be for a title but who cares.

Any one else think choi will beat both smith and simpson if given the chance?

He’s ranked 34 by the WBC and 38 by the IBO now.

In reply to the poster who mentioned the WBF title, they don’t have any ratings on their website (all the links are broken). However, Choi was formerly WBF champion. He won it when he was with Jack Doughty, and defended it twice. Presumably he was stripped, although I don’t believe the WBF make champions fight mandatories, so why he lost the title is a mystery. (Could it have had something to do with him winning the WBU title from Derry? Governing bodies don’t like their fighters holding (and defending) another title...)

Anyway, I wonder if Spencer could get him an IBO shot (which I think is vacant)? If not the ‘full’ version, an ‘international’ or ‘intercontinental’ version...I note that Derry, who holds the IBO international belt at lightweight, is only ranked 48 in their lightweight division, so presumably there would be no problems with Choi having too low a ranking to fight for the equivalent belt at featherweight.

Alternatively, how about one of the sanctioning bodies’ Asian belts (given Choi’s nationality), if Spencer can raise the funds to get an eligible contender over here?

Like other posters, though, I’d like to see a fight with Simpson, Smith, or Lindsay, all of which would be fantastic, I think. But a high risk, no reward fight for all three, and I can’t imagine their management teams would be keen...

A pity, he was ranked as high as 4 after the Matthews win.... I would love to see him and Derry battle it out again. Derry seems to be in great form of late, although I don't think the Prizefighter is really the most suitable event to claim an out right revenge. Even so, its 1-1 and there is unfinished business there.

As far as I know the WBF don't have their own rankings. On their official website they use the Boxrec rankings on which Choi is ranked no.22.

No i would favour both off them to win

i think the legend of Choi is getting out of hand
hes as tough as they come but is not as good as hes made out to be on these forums

would like to see him fight Simpson though would be a tear up

And fantastic move (in terms of matchmaking and boxing politics) to give Choi a foothold in the rankings, provided he comes through this. It may not be the fight UK fans want to see, but I can't imagine any other UK featherwight's team being keen to fight him...

great news for choi and as foothold in the rankin the guy when he won the wbf was no 7 in the ibf but lost that as wasnt active the guy deserves a world title shot of any kind
