Boxing Talk are reporting that lightweight king Floyd Mayweather is close to arranging a fight at 11 stone with sluggish former champion Marquez.
This would mean a jump of nearly 20 pounds.
Whilst someone like Marquez is made for the lightning fast Floyd, this is still a massive leap considering the trouble he had with the bigger Jose Luis Castillo.

That would be a shocker. Whilst I guess Mayweather could run his way to a points win over the likes of Marquez surely any long term ambitions in the class would be a non-starter.

I can't see why Floyd would be interesting in jumping so many weights? Last time he was moving up to Light Welterweight and now Light Middleweight, what next?! A challenge for RJJ at Light Heavy It's probably just talk, Floyd has notoriously bad hands but is his weight making such a problem as well?

Sounds like madness and a waste of a potentialy great career. He'd beat the plodding Marquez, but then what? De La Hoya would probably crush him at light middle.

What's wrong with a mega Tszyu fight at 140. He'd get paid well and can allow himself to grow into the higher weights if that's what he really wants.

How the hell is Mayweather going to put on all that weight? Is he wearing Michael Gomez's shorts at the weigh-in? :P

i heard maweather is after hatton to come over the states and fight him in a 10 rounder.

Of course, Mayweather wouldn't HAVE to put on all that weight, he could just come in under the weight, and use his speed, much like Jones Jr did against the plodding Ruiz, giving away 30 lbs.

Still think it's a load of old hornswaggle though.

what is he playing at he's been struggling at lightweight and don't try and convince me his last fight was so impressive, he was fighting an unproven blown up super featherweight :x mayweather should stay where he is for a bit longer and get it on with freitas or casamayor.

Yawn...talk of Mayweather-DLH really doesn't interest me. For some reason i would rather watch Mayweather-Castillo III

Maywether is crazy going up that many weights, he should fight at 140 first because he is having trouble with big lightweights, Tszyu would KO him and i think that there are a few other 140 pounders that would beat him like Mitchell ,Judah and probably Hatton. He is no quicker than Zab Judah except he has less power and is smaller.

On the subject of De La Hoya versus Mayweather Jr, how do people see the bout going? and howabout at different weight classes?
I think DLH beats him at 11 stone, 10-7, 10 stone and 9-9. Oscar's too fast, hits too hard and the key would've been his jab.

I think DLH will be too strong for him at Light Middle, not to sure about Welter, Lightwelter or Light. I don't think DLH could make 10 confortable now, so that would certainly benefit the Pretty Boy.

It would be a huge match up, and I tell you something I wouldn't be surprised if Mayweather wins even at Light Middle, this might sound crazy - but I struggle to find a major fault with him. His power isn't his forte, but you don't win if you can't hit him - as all his opponents have found out so far. He's faster than DLH and I think has better long term stamina than DLH.

If they met at light middle I wonder what the odds would be. Depends how he looks vs Marquez I suppose.
Mayweather is that good you wouldn't put anything past him.

Mayweather's a shrewd guy, they've picked a very win-able fight if the Marquez bout comes off, for me, he just doesn't have the pop to keep the very best at 11stone away, boxers like Mosley and Oscar himself were knockout artists at lightweight and they've taken their punching power with them up the weights to some degree.
For me, a Tszyu-Mayweather bout is 50-50 let alone the likes of Forrest, Mosley, Vargas etc.
