or did Eubank beat Benn at Old Trafford?

just watched it after many yrs and scored it for Chris 5-4-3 (and -1 Benn)

gave Nigel 1,4,8,10 and Chris 2,3,5,7,11 w/ 3rnds even

I just cannot seperate them in 6,12 (seesaw) but Benn had 1pnt off for fouls R6

R9 showed Eubank dominating 1st half of rnd on backfoot w/ Benn dominating 2nd half of rnd on frontfoot, boxing or brawling?

The clearest rnds won are 2,5 for Eubanks, the least clear of won rnds 8,10 of Benn

Story of the fight is counterpuncher Eubank opting to lead off constantly and Benn opting to move his head and body continually....Benn aiming for hard right uppercuts to body and leaping left hooks or rabbit punches, w/ Eubank cleverly aiming for light short head shots before tying up or pulling away......

Scored the fight the draw it was, so have no argument with you feeling the way you do, many will however, as time clouds judgement on big fights after we read years and years
of what people tell us happened, our own memory plays tricks. (learnt that from the mrs) Draw for me, could have gone either way, Its what I have always called a "no argument fight"

I had Benn up by a couple.

Nope. Eubank by a couple for me.

I remember having Eubank three rounds up at the halfway point, without Benn's point deduction. I remember scoring the first round even, and Benn struggling to get to grips with the fella. So Eubank four points up going into the seventh, and then Benn did a big sweep of four rounds on workrate with a tired Eubank missing everything, and a very tired Eubank took the last couple by throwing everything. Benn looked very tired and lazy in the last couple of rounds and lost the fight more than Eubank won it.

That's my memory of it.

Round One - Both men testing out their reflexes early. Very tense work. Eubank controlled the round with sharp jabs and straight right hands which Benn mostly ate flush. Benn was aggressive but just ran into too many shots.
10-9 Eubank

Round Two - Benn improved his defence a lot this round but Eubank still controlled the beginning and end of the round by simply working his jab and following up with the right hand. Benn made Eubank eat the cleanest punches of the round in the middle. Difference in the round was how Benn rolled Eubank's shots while Eubank ate Benn's flush. That said Eubank landed quite a bit more. Round could go either way, but I give it to Benn.
10-9 Benn (19-19)

Round Three - Eubank lands a good lead right and counter hook and continues to shoot some well-timed jabs, as well a nice inside uppercut in there. But Benn turns it on in the last minute and lands a clean hook at the end, the hardest shot of the round. Benn starts doing a decent job at slipping the right hand and countering to the body.
10-10 (29-29)

Round Four - Benn's starting to find the range with his right hand and body shots beginning to have some effect.
10-9 Benn (39-38 Benn)

Round Five - Some vicious exchanges from the opening bell that got sloppy at times. Benn landed the solid shots and was effective at slipping Eubank's flurries. Eubank's punches getting wider and slower.
10-9 Benn (49-47 Benn)

Round Six - Eubank starting to utilize his size and strength advantages, as well shortening and speeding up his punches. Benn deducted a point for persistent low blows over the previous four rounds.
10-8 Eubank (57-57)

Round Seven - Benn lands a few solid rights, makes Eubank miss and continues to chip away at his rib cage.
10-9 Benn (67-66 Benn)

Round Eight - Benn's ripping the body with hard uppercuts and mixing in right hands to the head, but also lands a lot of illegal shots that shouldn't be scored. At one point Benn somehow manages to weave his head around a rapid-fire Eubank combination. Eubank getting his jab working again at the end.
10-9 Benn (77-75 Benn)

Round Nine - Eubank tries to hit and move, but Benn catches up and his body work is the highlight of the round.
10-9 Benn (87-84 Benn)

Round Ten - Benn lands the hardest shot of the fight early, but Eubank lands more. Great action at the end.
10-9 Eubank (96-94 Benn)

Round Eleven - Eubank tightened up his punches in the 11th and started to use his jab again. His best round in awhile.

Round Twelve - Benn started strong and took advantage of Eubank slipping on water to stun and nearly floor him. Then Eubank came back and took the round for me with sharp combination punching (though all three official judges scored it for Benn), he had Benn hurt on the ropes but couldn't put him away.

Well there you go, I hold my hand up and admit my memory of the fight in my previous post was a little wrong on closer examination.

To me, Benn fought the best he possibly could that night, but Eubank did appear to have the more ability within - faster hands and sharper combos, more dangerous-looking rights (a handful missiled past by centimeters in round three).

And a draw was fine, fair.

It is an underated fight.... I scored it a draw, but the point deduction makes it Eubank by a 1 for me.

Some rather peculiar scoring from the official judges that night. The judge who scored the fight for Benn and the Draw both had Eubank ahead going into the 11th. Now I thought the 11th and the 12th were good rounds for Eubank, yet they scored them for Benn.

Drew was just, given what happened with Eubank's contract status (the "winner" was to sign with King for a fight with Nunn), it might not have been the most sensible thing for Barry Hearn to say to Gary Newborn after the fight (before the judging)... "i cannot seperate these two, infact I fancy the draw".... great get out clause.

We never knew how good we all had it at the time.

Those two men were the best boxing cocktail in the history of the sport and it had nothing to do with boxing.
They two characters were straight out of a 50's british comic book story.

Sorry mate but you are wrong and here's why.....this isnt about fighting styles if it were then ali v Frazer wins hands down I'm talking about opposites in the eyes of the public, Benn was waaaaaaaaaayyy madder than the nice guy joe, ali was a nice cheeky chappie, so Ali stood out but joe was more 'background Joe'.

Where as I think Joe was famous but not a star Benn & Eubank were UK 'stars' no doubt.
Benn = mad animal, Eubank = pompus snob.
Ali = SUPERSTAR, Joe = average guy. not quite the same is it?

I often wonder what Eubank might have achieved had he gone to Light-Heavyweight when still in his prime he seemed to drain himself for 168 for too long.

He dominated Rocchigiani, who was robbed against Maske and Michalczewski.

If he moved down to light-heavy after Thompson, punches like the uppercut which lifted Thompson off his feet would also have put Michalzewski on his back.
