Will Ward be able to rough up Froch?

I noticed on the Current Scene there is a topic titled "Who is the dirtiest fighter in the world" and many people are saying Ward.

If Ward does start (deliberately or not) fouling Froch with headbutts and elbows, how will Froch respond?

I personally think that if Froch feels he has been fouled he will try to foul Ward back in a similar manner as soon as he can. I can see a case of Ward getting away with some subtle borderline fouls while Froch is getting frustrated and getting point deductions and perhaps even DQ'd each time he tries to take his revenge.

It wouldn't be a satisfying conclusion to the Super Six but probably wouldn't do Froch much harm either, especially if he's being dominated.

Ward has had more practise, so I'm not sure trying to beat him at his own game is the best idea. but yeah, it'll be interesting to see how Froch responds. a Duran - Buchanan special loooooow uppercut on the ref's blindside would be nice, though.

I think Froch will come out with a wide loss but plenty of excuses after taking a few butts from Ward. This will, in his own head, enable him to say he is still the best Super-Middle in the World and fight Kessler whilst Ward can meet Bute for the real title!

The best way to fight Ward is to try rough him up. That's what Bika done and okay he got beat but he proved to be a real handful. As he always is.

Froch would be best boxing with Ward rather than trying to beat him in a fistfight.

that combo off speed and spoiling should rack up the pts for ward.

see froch being a step behind.

like to see ward stand off and do it.

but he won't will he.

The fact is simple while Andre Ward is a great technical fighter alot of people don't think he is an exciting fighter because he does not have enough KO power or is unwilling to finish off an opponent and I reckon he will look to prove people wrong in trying to do against Carl Froch who has probably got one of the best chins at Super Middleweight, but when does he will probably end up walking into a big Froch left hand, because will be looking to land big right hands at Froch similar to what Glen Johnson but Froch's awkward style could see him mistime and Froch nails him.

Froch needs to be ready for the head butts and elbows. Kessler got butted to death and accepted his defeat. Froch needs to have his retaliation ready. I just doubt the ref will give him a fair run.

How does Ward hold a shot? Are there any instances of him being shaken?

Ward is a top fighter but I hope Froch beats him.

Ward has been floored and badly hurt by Darnell Boon by a couple of pretty lame punches.

Watch 12.15 onwards, he gets jabbed and clipped and falls front first down, rises up looking shaken and then holds on until the end of round 4.

Thanks Gomez

Looks shaky there and nobody has really clipped him for a while. If Froch does land flush it could be interesting.

Your welcome.

Ward is very good at nullifying and smothering fighters, before giving them a quick burst going in, or stepping off. He likes to get his shots off and hold, or sneak out of range. In close he's been caught leading with the nut and throwing elbows in. I think the officials will be made well aware of this and hopefully if that sort of thing starts it will be nipped quickly in the bud.

Win or lose, i just hope a nasty cut or something doesn't ruin it and both men fight to their best in a clean, entertaining fight.

Think your analysis is spot on.

Ward has shut out a lot of his opponents. Froch needs to catch him with something coming in... and if he does he needs to end it there an then...

Froch is a breath of fresh air in the sport and I want his story to go on and on

I've just spoken to Carl on the phone now. He is off to meet McCracken and do some training this afternoon.

He's been in Montego Bay (Jamaica) for a nice long break and says he's fully charged up and raring to get back into training. He says the game plan meetings are spot on so far - and that at first it'll be middleweights like Agogo and heavyweight Warren Baister, before getting some box-movers like Kid Chocolate and Edwin Rodriguez involved.

I asked him about the Boone video and he says he's seen it. He then said it was interesting that this journeyman has something like a 17-17 record and only a handful of stoppages and for the most part was a middleweight. He takes some satisfaction in seeing that Ward got caught with a chopping little uppercut, but isn't really focusing too hard on it because it was an early fight and all new pro's are ona learning curve at that stage - which I'm glad he said and shows he's not taking anything for granted.

Looks like it was the uppercut that did the damage, i'd love to see what effect a Froch uppercut would have!

Part 2 begins with the replay and a different angle. You see him stiffen right up as he goes over.

No sooner has Ward been hurt, his gameplan completely changed. He looks to hold, smother and grab until the final bell.

Thanks so much for sharing that, really appreciate it… Posts like that make these boards…

Sounds like Carl is really doing his homework and is being very honest with himself. It’s a massive fight but Froch has proved so much already.

was that not when he was boiling down to middle like a mad man :shame:

i take nothing from that.

i think the question is can froch rough up ward :!: ward outboxes froch & makes froch come on to him & maybe a head at times.

Since getting dropped by Boone, Ward has taken harder punches from harder punchers, and not once did he appear to be in any trouble. I remember a similar video was posted of Dirrell getting dropped by a journeyman, and suddenly predictions like Froch KO 2 started appearing.

Videos like that are worth noting, but Froch is taking the right approach by not focusing on it too much.

Good luck to Froch but in answer to the topic does Ward need to rough up Froch? The answer is no and he should be able to outbox - Froch can fight and he proved he can box against Abraham (although McCracken was even then holding him back).

If Ward keeps him long and frustrates by holding when tight (depends on ref) then its his but I really hope Froch wins - he surely deserves it - a real unsung hero in a time where lesser "champions" (Haye) take so much and give so little back

froch has the ability to defeat anyone, but he is extremely inconsistent & boxes within himself like no other at times & i would not bat an eyelid if he done ward but ward is consistant & thats why i go with him.

Great insight Gomez - thanks. Have to say though, whilst it sounds great in theory I think Carl will be frustrated by Ward and revert to type and try to make a war of this.

Froch could have one of the best jabs in the business but he fails to use it properly - could do with it against Ward.

It's not dirty and this is were people get it wrong! It's inside fighting of the highest level! Hopkins was labelled dirty for years but it's just great inside fighting! I really admire Carl Froch and have done for a long time!

I've always sung his praises and his resume is the best of any British fighter in our era! He is a tremendous fighter, however I feel the Ward fight is a step too far, I think he'll lose on points, I hope I'm wrong but styles make fights and Ward is all wrong for Froch IMHO, like I said I hope I'm wrong..

I picked Ward at the announcement of this tournament and I expected him to be in the final of it all against AA but he got found out to be a bully fighter who has no plan B were as Carl has shown more strings to his bow and really come of age, like I said though I'm gutted he's bumping into a modern dah version of B-Hop in Ward! If you watch him long enough you'll see he has been studying Hopkins and has a style based on his ;-)
