Sky puts a freeze on PPVs

I've always thought 'PPV' is a misnomer anyway - as you've said, it gives the impression that 'normal' boxing on Sky is somehow free. It isn't, it's bloody pricey if that's all you've got your sports subs for.J-C wrote:So will this mean more free boxing on Sky or just less boxing overall?
The absolute worst thing that Hennessy can do is put Fury in with Audley for the next show - it will turn viewers right off. It is worrying the that a British Title shot is even being talked about for Harrison after his worthless 'effort' against Haye.Ian 'Mr' McNeilly wrote:I've always thought 'PPV' is a misnomer anyway - as you've said, it gives the impression that 'normal' boxing on Sky is somehow free. I believe Hennessy will be welcomed back by Channel 5 and that's a good start. I think it might also be the end though, as far as terrestrial telly goes.
Fury v Rogie would be a cracker though mate, no? Or is Rogan out of the picture?gasman wrote:The absolute worst thing that Hennessy can do is put Fury in with Audley for the next show - it will turn viewers right off. It would make the most sense in Belfast a week after the McCloskey card. It would be a good fight while it lasted but Fury would have too much for Rogie. I like Fury v Perez.Ian 'Mr' McNeilly wrote:Fury v Rogie would be a cracker though mate, no? In a nutshell.MachoMan09 wrote:Boxing has always been and always will be PPV on Sky. However, I welcome this move away from PPVPPV.
Rogan has turned down fight there an article at boxing scene about this.gasman wrote:It would make the most sense in Belfast a week after the McCloskey card. Rogan has claimed that no one has directly approached him, he also blasted reports in the press whereby, someone was apparently speaking on his behalf. Rogan represents himself these days and the only way he is fighting Fury is if he is offered top dollar.leforge wrote:Rogan has turned down fight there an article at boxing scene about this.gasman wrote:It would make the most sense in Belfast a week after the McCloskey card. Dout Perez would fancy that after their sparring sessions!!gasman wrote:It would make the most sense in Belfast a week after the McCloskey card. The problem is the big fights cost money and that money can only be raised via the PPV format.Josh1111 wrote:Great news. I just hope promoters dont just ship next year and jump on the primetime bandwagon.
Great news for now though, looks like Froch v Ward will be on normal sky, result
Cant sky just increase boxing budget? Or only allow ppv for big fights with decent undercard.boxingchat wrote:The problem is the big fights cost money and that money can only be raised via the PPV format.Josh1111 wrote:Great news. if Sky doe freeze PPV it could also make the big fights unlikely.
It's not a good thing if you think outside the box.

Why has that become the case in recent years?boxingchat wrote:The problem is the big fights cost money and that money can only be raised via the PPV format.Josh1111 wrote:Great news. I just hope promoters dont just ship next year and jump on the primetime bandwagon.

I started a thread before on potential of sky pulling out after July 2012. Would this be good for British boxing?Camcas wrote:Sky will pull out of boxing all together soon, while PPV are bad they do get the big fights made which i doubt we will get next year
