George Reno has just confirmed to me that Anthony Mundine will take on Rigberto Alvarez for the WBA interim Junior Middleweight Title in Newcastle, September 21.

Alvarez in his last fight was easily beaten on points by Austin Trout, who was in the frame recently to fight our "Man" before the fight disappeared thankfully for Mundine.

So much for Mundine's claim to be fighting the world's best and in their backyard!

And should Mundine win, he'll claim to be four times world champion, just the clown to deliver the joke.

Title??? Ok so I get it if you are a family member, you want to support eachother, but can't you see interim champion is a joke? Really be honest now. I hope the undercard boys get paid in cash an not seats. And I hope mundine wins but spare me the champion/title crap,

Lester would be too young for choc at this time of his career. He would be more likely to call out 71 year old Jimmy Ellis.

Hey man i aint no family member im just a boxing fan supporting boxing full stop.. Dont get me wrong iam personally over some of his undercards putting on overmatched BUMS under quality undercards but hey only team mundine can get away with that.. I support Mundine for what his done for aussie boxing, and not for his big mouth he is a great athlete but i agree with all of u that he doesn't fight the best champions in there prime he has never beaten a champion always fought for the vacant titles but look hes an entertainer sells the bums on seats and his a hell of an athlete..

I agree with a lot of what you say Boxa and didn't mean to come across as disrespecting you, we all have opinions. Anthony is mo doubt a supreme athlete, and a world class entertainer. From what I understand from others is that he is a good bloke as well. But other than make a lot of money, which is his right as a prizefighter. I don't think he has done much for the sport outside of Australia. His claims to being a great are laughable on the world scene. If he had of fought Kessler when he had the chance we wouldn't be discussing this subject now. Had he won that fight he could have returned home and fought all the bums he liked, and I would have paid to see se of them. But he took flight and now we will never know if he was the real deal. Had he lost he would have had respect.
As I hope I have made clear, I rate him in the same bracket of Aussie fighters such as Charley Ramon, Leo young, Shannon Taylor (10 years ago) but certainly below the level of Tony Mundine, Paul ferreri, Hector Thompson, all who took their shot and eventually came up short, anyway that's my opinion. support wat mundine has done for aussie boxing??????? all he has done is rip ppl off,made a joke of the sport,thank goodness for the likes of geale. the public were duped into supportin his retirement fund. a lot of ppl including myself wanted to back him but he went from a promising fighter to a....... well i say this,he wont ever be respected in the real world of boxing,maybe as a showman but that would be it

I don't think he has done much for boxing in Australia at all of late early in his career he created a lot of interest back in our sport. But when you look at the under cards he has been serving up and making the fighters pay there own way i can't see how that is good for our sport. He had a real opportunity to take Australian boxing and get back in the main stream of OZ sport. But greed stopped that. When your showcasing a product you have showcase the best. If people tune in and you serve up crap fights they won't tune in again. Give em good even match ups and the people will come back for more. I guess main event need to take some ownership too they let it happen.

Sorry Thunder, I thought you were saying the WBA were a joke with their different champs, and i totally agree but most of the other organisations play the same games.

No disrespect taken my friend all good buddy i do agree with you i mean he had allot of chances taking on good champions as u named kessler etc but he choose the bums oh well will soon find out when he fights alvarez he is the brother of Saul alvarez the red head mexican superstar.. will see how he can handle this mexicans power after garth wood kncoking him out cold and than redeeming himself with a points decision he is definately looking a mucher older mundine..

Charley Ramon? I take it you mean Commonwealth Champion Charkey Ramon who had to retire from boxing because of a severe shoulder injury suffered in an industrial accident. Charkey only lost one fight early in his career and did not get a shot at a world Title.

could any of you boys tell me if Callan Park is still open, as mundine isthe number one candidate for admission,get hold of the Newcastle Herald 17-o8-11 for the best laugh of your life, Mundine has rated himself with,mayweather hopkins and pacquiao,he satd the bout proves he is sincere about fighting the best?he said there is nobody around that can match him now, please ,can you keep him down there in sydney, this kid is a joke, all the best

yes of course I was using my iphone and it told me how to spell Charkey, In the words of Ron Casey "He was a real one"

Think Mundine may have picked the wrong opponent in this one. I dont know toomuch about Alvarez but based on the fact he went the distance with trout, I think he gets the win over Mundine.
