I don't find it visually appealing, but I also don't find it "horrible and dated."

No.

The Lonsdale belt has a historic heritage... And while it has never been as revered or as prestigous as a World Title. on the plus sude it hasn't really been affected with bullshit beaurocracy (spelling?) or the tordid corruption that some of the world boxing bodies come off with, (particualrly the WBA and the WBO).

This title says that you are the best of British, no more and no less... And it really needs to be kept.

But was the OP asking about the belt's ''historic heritage'' or its physical appearance? I can easily see why some people don't think the belt is visually attractive.

The Lonsdale belt is a thing of beauty and quality. It is historic and iconic to fans of British boxing and in order to win one outright it must be earned the hard way unlike the tacky world title belts that are handed out to all and sundrie today.

Roll up, roll up, WBA belt anyone? WBC Diamond belt? Show me the cash. Here ye go, a nice inter penta hispanic continental belt. Just remember the smaller the title the bigger the belt!

Like I said before I think that there should be a new one with UV lights built into it so that it looks kinda 'Tron' ish?

@The Cobra sorry mate but I think all the belts look shite.

On a positive note hey could be worse at it could be Germany, at least you dont get a big fuking wreath around your neck when you win, must be the only time a winner feels like a loser.

Being the Lonsdale champ simply means a fighter is the top domestic operator at his weight. Even the WBA interim champs and WBC diamond/silver champs are usually genuine world class fighters, or very close to it, so I don't agree that the major world champs generally have an easier path to those titles. Most of them have defeated opposition that is at least on par with the opposition Lonsdale champs defeated to win their belt.

For me the Lonsdale Belt is beautiful and to it is still very important in this sport that we all love it shows you have taken on the best in this country and you have beaten them to win it outright and shows you are a great fighter who deserves to be mentioned alongside the likes of...

John Conteh
Lennox Lewis
Chris Finnegan
Henry Cooper

and more who have won it outright.

Makes you wonder what the fornicate the BUI are doing nowdays with their belts, None of them even look the exact same !, the only consistent feature is that their green, big and ugly.

The picture above however truly is a thing of beauty, and although I'm probably biased in this I think aesthetically it is more pleasing that the Londsdale belt. You could make a case for the old 9ct gold Lonsdale belt looking nicer ,it really is so much nicer than the current one, despite not being that drastically different. But the current one is ruined by the fact that Hugh Lowther really was one ugly muthafucka, and his big mug pretty much ruins the belt. Fair play to him for donating the original belts and all though.

Yeah nowadays, but you couldn't be more wrong historically!

the Lonsdale Belt during Boxing's more prestigious periods, both in quality of fighters and world wide popularity was very much a proud and desired achievement - it was damn near a world title!

domestic was NOT a word used among the Top Nations and fighters in the sport, they were world classed and true contenders. in todays vacuum of quality and popularity the word is more fitting, but never in the hayday!

All you nostalgics should relalise that even the look of this belt is a prime example of why this great sport is in decline & MMA is taking away the new younger demograph (and no matter what you say it's true) and leaving boxing behind.

I think that they should make all the belts in the world look modern ans constantly update them, no forward thnking is what is killing this sport yet you all prefer to sit in your cosey prisons hoping for the same meal everyday. ffs there's a world outside your window.
The past does not define who you are it mearly gives you a badge to pin your hangups on to.

The belt just looks....well.. woefull.
For new fresh young fighters? give them somethng cool not some old antique that isn't even cool in a retro way.
School kids should have a god at redisgning this belt. as the kids are more in touch with the next gen of boxers than we are.

So take in a deep breath suck in your guts and repeat after me.. "change is good"

This thread is nothing to do with beauty and eveything to do with serotonin.

x2 I really don't know why 6 people have voted against it. Probably Mr Saxon logging in under a few different names.

No I only have one name, however it shows that people do have opinions and can see it for what it is.
