why fight the real WBA chanmp when you can fight for a vacant interim title.
How is there a vacant interim title if Trout is the active champion????

And Trout is only the 'regular' champion; Miguel Cotto is the real WBA king at 154.
I can live with each sanctioning body having one world champion per divison, but it's absurd that the WBA now has 3 world champions in the some divisions.

TROUT UPDATE: If their Twitter exchanges are any indication, look for fireworks when Las Cruces’ Austin Trout (23-0, 13 KOs) and Australia’s Anthony Mundine finally meet in the ring.
But that won’t happen until December at the earliest, says Trout’s trainer, Las Cruces’ Louie Burke, and the World Boxing Association junior middleweight champion is looking for a title defense in the interim.
Trout and Mundine were to have fought this month in Australia, but the game changed when Mundine was elevated to No. 1, mandatory contender status by the WBA.
“We’d agreed to a 50-50 split (for the purse of the scheduled August fight),” Burke said. “But when Mundine became the number-one contender, that became 75-25 for Austin (as mandated by the WBA).”
Mundine’s camp balked. The veteran Australian (42-4, 25 KOs), opted instead to fight Mexico’s Rigoberto Ãlvarez, whom Trout defeated for his world title, in September. A victory over Ãlvarez would make Mundine the WBA “interim” champion, prompting a 60-40 purse split for a Trout-Mundine fight.
If Mundine beats Ãlvarez, Burke said, the plan is for Trout and Mundine to meet in December.
In the meantime, while Trout and Mundine exchange who’s-ducking-whom tweets, Trout’s promoter, Greg Cohen, and his manager, Bob Spagnola, are trying to find another fight for the Las Cruces southpaw.
There are several possibilities, Burke said, but nothing firm.

Now I understand why,
The question really should be how anthony became number one contender?
Any ideas?

A better question is how did Trout get his no.1 rating before fighting Alveraz.???????
Anyway, remember the argie Jerez, that was for the WBA International Lt. Middle title. That put Mundine into the top ten ratings in june 2010. In feb 2011 Trout wins vacant regular title by UDing Alveraz. By may Baysangurov is rated 2, Mundine is rated 3 with the No.1 rating vacant. In june 2011 Trout fights Lopez instead of Baysangurov. Baysangurov decides to fight Miranda for interim WBO Lt. Middle title, leaving Mundine in negotiations with Trout. Talks fall over and Mundine is rated 1. Mundine and Alveraz then sign for Interim Title. Trout must then fight winner as mandatory defence or vacate.
There you are .......clear as mud. ;;-)
