I firmly believe that Audley has the talent to be the best ballroom dancer the world's ever seen. Possibly.

I think he`ll be a star on the program ... the guy may not dance too good ... but he is sure a character the public will love to hate

Its these type of opportunities that boxers are missing out on by not fighting on the BBC or ITV.
Bruno and Cooper made a large part of their money from such things ..

I watched a bit of the rehersals on BBC, and lets just say that Audley isn't going to win

If his dancing is as bad as his boxing then he should make an even bigger tit out of himself than he already is.

What, the opportunity to commit three/four months of their time to a reality television show? Any active sportsman with even a drop of ambition remaining wouldn't go near such a programme. I'm sure neither Cooper nor Bruno committed that much time to TV work, in a single stint, and perhaps in totality, during either their active or retired periods.

What I meant was - if they were fighting on mainstream TV channels. They would be offered such opportunities.
How much did Henry Cooper add to his bank account through the years with his TV appearances and Brut 33 adverts?? I`m sure it was alot more than most ex-boxers of similar status were earning away from TV.
Nowadays celebrities are quite often merely former realityTV contestants .. a former well known champion with charisma is surely more deserving to the `Celebrity` status .. and payday, than any of these??
Of course they wouldn`t ideally do it whilst still active - but Mayweather and Holyfield previously did so.

Don't go making out you wouldn't say 'yeah happy with that' if they offered you a million. When they got out of boxing BBC were showing David Haye's fights live, Mick Hennesy's bigger bills and Audley's fights. If it was all on Audley then they would have just ditched him and kept the others on. It was low figures across the board, not just some of Audley's fights.

I think a bet against him going first would be a decent bet, if he is the favourite to go first. Don't forget what Brits do in these voting systems, keep the shite ones in for comic effect. John Sergeant, Jedward, Rage against the machine xmas number 1 etc etc.

As a regular viewer of Strictly (but I do not watch it Live as I am normally in the pub with my dad) I have seen it done too many times, when the judges utterly flay someone in front of 8-10 million viewers which are usual viewing figures for it, and that generates alot of sympathy from the viewers who as a result vote en masse to keep them in at the expense of the better dancers see Anne Widdecombe who was terrible, John Sargeant the BBC Political Correspondent (who was partnered with Joe Calzaghe's missus) who was even worse and Kate Garroway who were all kept in at the expense of the much better celebs. Mind you there is a decent amount of totty on it this year mind you.

As for Audley Harrison, during his career in the paid ranks I often found myself banging head against the wall. Because when you look at him all the raw attributes were they here, height, reach, good jab, power and critically the southpaw stance and you do not get many southpaw heavyweights do you, and I thought he was going to go an awful long way. But alas it did not work out for one reason or another so he will go down as one of the great unfufilled talents in boxing.

I got all the figures from the BBC for that time period. Audley started OK and then absolutely tanked.

I don't blame him for taking the money, of course. He talked a lot and was sh1t though.

The BBC just didn't understand what they were getting into.

I'm saying that if there was loads of interest in Haye and Froch's early fights, but hardly any interest in Audley's fights then the BBC would just have ditched Audley and kept on all their other boxing. But they didn't because viewing figures were poor across the board. I aint getting into the numbers but yes I am saying figures were low across the board. When the BBC got out of boxing Audley's previous 3 fights had been Hersisia, Francis and Bonin, around this time Haye had recently lost to Carl Thompson and was on his way back up after that knock, and I think (though I'm guessing here) Froch was fighting Damon Hague, Adamu and Mark Woolnough. Dunno if you can drag the figures up on those fights but I'll bet all of these would have had figures that flattered to decieve except maybe the Haye v Thompson fight as I think I remember that got shown on a delay on Grandstand. Also the million quid contract was for Audley's first 10 fights. After that I dunno what the contract was, but note they didn't ditch him at the end of the 10 fight deal, they ditched him when they ditched boxing altogether. Everyone seems to blame it on Audley, but I'm saying it was because nearly all the boxing they aired wasn't getting the required viewing figures.

Ian if you can get hold of the figures for Audleys fight Vs hersisia, froch v adamu, Hague and woolnough, haye v Thompson and arturo gatti v leonard dorin could you post em up just for a comparison please. The discussion me and Cardiff lad are having isn't gonna get settled otherwise is it
