As a promoter every boxing fan must be turned off of Jamie Cox after tonight.

The only way to turn that round is for him to get back in the ring with the man who just beat him and accept that he has to still earn that belt

My first thought was "no chance", but after seeing Cox box a couple of times it is clear that he will not go above (or possibly even reach british title level), and therefore unless he is a massive ticket seller he will never be a cash cow and FW might as well get rid of him

One way for him to see if Cox can go any further would be to arrange a rematch.

There needs to be a general cull amongst the top promoters prospects. They need to be given sink or swim fights, as fights (or rather decisions) like last night can only damage the sport.

Cant imagine that Allegedly would have been too overjoyed with the performance and wont be in any hurry to push him into a fight with Prince Aaron anytime soon but tht is just my opinion...any thoughts?

Rematch! Cox is not ready for Rhodes and may never be. Aaron stops the version I saw the other night.

It may be what a lot of the fans want but do you think Allegedly will actually organise it? I suppose it would make sense in terms of damage control?

I'm more optimistic than this.

I was one of apparently many who emailed Simon Block (Hon Sec of the Commonwealth Boxing Council) to protest at what had happened, and received the following reply:

Dear XXX,
Your email is one of many that I have received since Friday evening and I have responded to each personally.
Furthermore I have recived formal complaints from the manager of Obodai Sai and the Chairman of the Ghana Boxing Authority which are currrently receiving consideration. The Directors of the Commonwealth Boxing Council, who are based around the Commonwealth, have been informed of both the formal complaints and the public outcry surrounding the refereeing and the judging of the contest. I am sure you will appeciate that snap decisions regarding complaints are not possible in an organization with a Constitution and procedures for dealing with these but I am confident that when the decision of the Directors is made it will based on what is considered to be the interests of the contestants, our Championships and the image of the sport of boxing.

I remain hopeful that in the light of such protests the Council will do the right thing. (And I was pleased to read that the majority of protests were from British fans)

The injustice was clear to see. I also thought Prescott was very hard done by, but I see from other posts that many thought it was a close fight whereas I didn't. The difference in the Sai/Cox fight is that the injustice is undeniable.

Maybe Cox vacating and the Ghanian put in against TBA for the vacant title ?
Unlikely as I can't see Cox getting a chance at any other title.
The more likely is that the Ghanian is financially recompensed.
The Board can make an order, no one's denying that, but it doesn't necessarily mean that the order is complied with to the letter.
You only have to look back to the Vincent v Barnes debacle.
The same level of outrage was expressed at all levels in boxing.
OK that was for the British title - but the governing body is the same for the Commonwealth title.
This board ran a strong campaign for Jimmy.
A rematch was ordered - did it take place ? No.
Vincent suddenly got a chance at the WBU and a decent pay day - wonder why.
Judging is down to people's own perceptions of a fight.
What makes the Board's position here difficult, is that everyone got it wrong - Ref and Officials.

It will be interesting to follow this.

Usually these things drag on and in the meantime there is some other controversial decision and unfortunately people forget and these things get swept under the carpet and seem to disappear.

How much power does the Commonwealth board realistically wield? I can't see them kicking up any kind of stink.

Do the BBBC have some responsibility for the referee given the weakness of his performance?

I noted that Russell Mora was given a run out on the Nishioka-Marquez undercard, which reminded me that this is not a UK only problem. Shooting would have been too good for Mora after he robbed Joseph Agbeko.

Think some kind of investigation is happeninig on this in mid october. The board will probs advise a re-match is required, whether or not this will actually take place is a different matter. Interesting interview with Sai's camp, follow the link:
