Apparently it's on for the WBO Lightweight Title. Good fight for Katsidis I reckon, but what's happened to the Light Welter ambitions?

this is a great fight for katsidis. I guess marquez must have vacated the title.

If this is kosher it is probably a matter of a title being available.
Good luck, Michael.

He's been 'Super Champ' for ages. It's actually got to do with the fact that JMM has/is vacating to head to 147lbs and contest for Pacquiao's WBO 147lbs belt when they meet in November.

Don't get me wrong I'm a massive Katsidis fan but how does he get to fight for the Vacant title ahead of Robert Guerrero who is the interim title holder?

Interim, naturally. WBO is run by indecisive clowns.

Burns is Wbo super featherweight World champion. I doubt very much it's for the interim. at lightweight.

"Interim" is how it is described on the schedule.

Yep it is for the interim title very strange. Giving up a world title (all be it a WBO one) and moving up to fight a big puncher in Katsidis who weighed 140 ponds for his last fight. Really can't understand it Burns is not even a big puncher. I think Katsidis will walk straight through him.

In 2006 WBO Lightweight Champion Acelino Freitas announced his retirement. The WBO contacted Michael Katsidis and had him abandon two upcoming fights to fight Graham Earl for the vacant title.
Freitas then changed his mind and announced he would fight Juan Diaz to combine his WBO title and Diaz's WBA title. The WBO panicked. Fearing being sued by Katsidis for loss of earnings and unwilling to cast Freitas aside (he lost to Diaz anyway) they decided to have two champions, one champion and one interim champion.
They have been gun shy about their lightweight title ever since.
