Am In Shock Selby Won & Won By KO.

Honestly my mouth was wide open in pure shock when Smith went down like that. I find this a crazy upset.

Honestly I really didn't give Lee much of a chance. Smith had fought way better class beating John Simpson x2. Smith was the way better amatuer & Selby had already been defeated by 1-0-1 Samir Mouneimne in 2009(Smith ironically had beat Samir in the Amatuer Ranks). Stephen was like 1-10 FAV.

Plus the fight was in Smith's hometown Liverpool. I found it hard to imagine anyway Sleby winning. And I never dreamed of a KO. Smith going into the fight had NEVER been down Amatuer or Pro & had never even been given a standing count. And Selby wasn't regared as a puncher with just 2 KO's out of 10 wins.

But to see Selby outwork, out strength, land clean shot after shot, and then score a ONE punch KO was really quite something. I'd say impressive would be a understatment.

Shocking Stuff....... :oo

Watching the fight with a mate who never watches boxing, he was saying all night that Swifty was getting hit way too much and manhandled in close.

His style in his current form is going to be a problem for him, he loves a tear up but is too easy to hit and his inside fighting is particularly weak.

He'll bounce back I'm sure, Allegedly needs to keep him much busier though.

was the 6s for the straigt win not enough?

Cracking result for Selby

Selby impressed me last night, looks like he would be awkward as hell to figure out, Smith couldn't work him out and his defence looked very poor! Cracking finish by Selby though

Really thought that Smith would dominate, and couldn"t undserstand the confidence in Selby tbh.
Selby was just too physical for Smith, and reminded me a bit of Welsh Aaron Pryor :oo

simpson is a guy who bounces back after heartbreakingly close defeats. kind of like a domestic glen johnson. this could certainly be a way back for the scotsman.

This is exactly what we were saying and why we were so shocked, no one knew anything about Selby! He's arrived now though.. The kid is a huge talent! Good luck to him..

Worryingly for smith I don't think selby is first rate. If Simpson gets in with him hell beat the shit out of him on the inside if he throws those wild telegraphed shots.

I keep reading on here about how good smith is, but I'm yet to see it myself. Let's face it he's now lost his last 3 fights!

Fair comment. I agree there's no doubt he has the talent but he hasn't shone recently. It will be interesting to see where he goes from here.

Selby fought that way for a reason, he's normally much more elusive but Smith wanted a war and got battered. If he fights Simpson then he'll adopt a different strategy for him and hopefully come through again.

People saying they don't think Selby is ''first rate'' is a joke since this was probably the first time that 90% of people on here had seen him box! :TU:
x2 Makes me laugh!

Apart from a few in South Wales, nobody gives Selb a chance then he ko's one of Britain's best prospects in his hometown when the odds against him were ridiculous and he still doesn't get praise off some people. He has gained the Welsh, Celtic, Commonwealth and British titles in a year for a reason. There's so, so, so much more to come from him. Like Cardiff said - he's normally completely different, Sky viewers haven't seen half of what he can do, yet.

Stephen Smith is still the talent and prospect he was before Saturday, Selby beat a very good fighter and he'll continue to do so. This isn't the only good win on his record like some are making out, as if it's a fluke. Joe Murray went 12 rounds with James Ancliffe, Murray won every round I know but Selby stopped Ancliffe in 6 and barely took a shot in the process. He has serious talent!

Definately fair points guys, your right that was the first time I've seen Selby, so my assessment is based on that. Are you really saying that throwing gigantic, telegraphed, looping punches was an actual strategy though? Fair dos if your right, but I doubt it!

I look forward to seeing him in the future, your all bang-on with how impressive his acheivements are so far.

Selby was teeing off on him from round 2. Smith will come back. Selby is nothing like a Welsh Arron Pryor like someone has written on this feed. Light years apart in terms of ability!!!

Some people were talking about Smith like he was the second coming of Ray Robinson. I`ve not seen that much of him, but the four or five times I`ve watched his fights, he has not impressed at all.

Very scrappy fighter, always lunging in and with a poor defence. Obviously the lad has talent, but is a long way off a future world beater like many were predicting.

selby telegraphed nearly every punch and Swifty fell for the obvious too many times, walking onto the same shot over and over. Selby had the reach, but with a bit of body, head movement and some footwork, Swifty could have used his superior skills to box him a bit. Instead he just went piling in and literally tried to walk through Selbys work.

Swifty was honest in his after fight interview, it wasn't Joe's fault as much as his own for being flat and not being able to carry out the gameplan.

Also seemed to me he tried to bully Selby and Selby just wasn't having it, and when Selby used a bit of roughhouse back towards the end Stephen didn't respond so well, but at that point he was probably feeling the frustration.

Poor day at the office for a talented fighter but he's got to learn to put his skills into practise fully in the pro game as I'm not sure he has yet.

Selby for me is limited and this will be the high point of his career.

I agree. Alex Arthur obliterated the british and European scene but never made the jump to proper world level. Contrast that with Smiths domestic struggles and you can see that world title talk is far fetched.

How many times have you seen Selby fight to enable you to call him 'Limited'??
maybe it would have been more correct for me to say "on the evidence of the swifty fight" - as i was at the fight, and he just looked limited to me, and that was supposed to be his best performance.

I imagine that plenty of people who saw him fight before had similar opinions about his abilities which is why he was

a - accepted as an opponent
b - such an outsider

Just my opinion but the likes of Simpson will eat him up.
