Im wondering if anyone here as tried to apply to be a boxing ref or judge, I have applied twice but have been told that there are no vacances in my area which is the north west and this should not be changing anytime soon. As anyone else tried to apply and how did you do? If anyone as any tips on how to get in to this please let me know. Many Thanks

As I understand it, there's not much capacity for the Board to bring on new officials. They get mentored quite closely and it's just a simple numbers issue.
Also depends, I suppose, on the nature of your approach...you could ask to be added to a waiting list should one exist; you could also write on an annual or bi-annual basis to show you're not going anywhere.
Also, pop to a show near you and see if you can have a word with a ref in person. I know a few and they're all good lads, always willing to chat and offer advice and information.
Good luck

Thanks will do that when next at show. To be honset I was speaking to some at the Stephan Smith fight last week and they said to try different areas so will look into that, just had a baby though so would rather be covering local fights

Amateur boxing struggles for officials. The courses are straightforward and its a great way to get into the game.

You could also go on a crusade to improve the standard of refereeing or judging on unlicensed/white collar/ semi pro shows , the ref i use is very good but some arent , and even if you was just doing it to gain experience etc you get paid too so its a nice bonus .
