The BBC is a joke...

Sued today for massive undisclosed damages by Adrian Ogun, BBC-sport is a joke nowadays. Is it just me, or is it every time I log on to their boxing site I spot errors in the text that lose the site all credibility. I wonder how Garry Delaney feels when he logs on and sees his name misspelt for example.
You know, I couldn't even watch Esham Pickering's big European title win over Vincenzo Gigliotti last weekend. I can't listen to Jim Neilly any more.

Showing 10 rounds of a 12 round fight, is inexcusable. How on earth are you supposed the score the fight?
They put the programme on after midnight and then they still cut the programme/fight short to put on some shit such as teletext pages or GCSE German revision programmes!!!!
They have spelt a number of boxers names wrong in the past (Michael Sprott was one of 'em) and any boxing fan can see from the obvious mistakes that the articles have been wrote by someone lacking basic boxing knowledge. I sometimes get

for them.

The BBC have USED Boxing and the people in Boxing simply to temporarily and half heartedly fill a void created by the absence of Match of The Day.
Now that Match of The Day is due to return to the BBC, Boxing will be discarded like an unwanted toy.
Shame on them, the whole of the BBC organisation stinks, through and through.
It should be boycotted.
As expensive as SKY is, at least they are entusiastic about boxing.

I hope to God that the BBC don't ditch boxing......do you think they will?
Buncey is ok, Rawling is sound but the rest are a bit annoying

I agree, Bunce is not bad and Rawling is good, I also like Duke.
They should all go to ITV who I hear are showing interest in the sport again, but dont want to put "silly titles on at 11.30, they want proper fights at 9pm.
I think the BBC will ditch Boxing which will return to ITV this year or next.

Jim Beam Neilly should get a free transfer to rugby coverage, Rawling is miles better.
Still, as long as the BBC keep showing the big USA bills I'm happy enough. Gatti is Sunday night, though it'd be a better idea if they could show it Sunday AM ( so as not to disrupt there Sunday afternoon figure skating schedule of course..)
Channel 5 have the Sheika rematch listed for Sat night too.

We moan and moan at the BBC (wee don't have someone that can ban us for saying that its crap anymore so), and we have the right to do so...
They are the Flagship Channel of UK TV and are a disgrace to teh sport of boxing...
Why can't they take in seriously.... Seriously, like the..... GERMANS!
I couldn't believe it when I first read it but on ZDF or Ersten, one of the Main German TV Channels, Sven Ottke's last fight was broadcasted and watched by over 28 Million people, thats huge!!!
You telling me we couldn't do the same over here?
Once the BBC takes the sport seriously, and puts it on at descent times... (Not a 3am in the Morning or cramming 3 fights into a 10 minute slot on Grandstand, when I am out watching the football!), chuck it on at 7pm on BBC 2 FFS!
Does it matter that a 1 Hour Boxing Show would be slotted in over David Attenborough repeats on a Saturday evening???
Learn from our German counterparts BBC and either cover the Sport properly or not at all!!!

What did Ogun sue them for? I must have had my head up my arse for this one, I don't know anything about it.
Ogun comes across as a bit of a wanker, I don't think he's as bright as he'd like to have people believe, he shaped like a proper numpty immediately after the first Lewis-Rahman fight, seemed out of his depth.
Though I suppose if he's manged to walk away with a lump of licence payers money he can't be that daft.

I hadn't heard anything about this BBC payout either.
Ogun has done very well for an ex-weather forecast presenter hasn't he.

I've just checked it out, basically on a radio interview with the BBC Don King suggested (in my condensed words) that Ogun was either shit at his job or on the take for securing Lewis 'the worst deal in the history of boxing' for the Vitali fight.
The BBC rebroadcast the interview and put it on their website. Ogun has done them for defamation.
In my opinion Don was probably right.

Last Saturday, I tuned in to the BBC, to watch the Pickering fight.
I was ringside at the fight, but always like to see fightsagain with the TV angles.
Nice intro - fighting from Barnsley !
Well I live on the outskirts of Barnsley, and remember distinctly driving to Bradford.
Arseholes.

How is that defamation, publishing a statement from Don King as a third party is hardly defamation of character, surely they cannot have a successful case on the basis of that?

I believe it is because they re-broadcast it. i.e. When Don initially said it live on air they couldn't do anything about it and SEM/Ogun's only argument could be with King.
I suspect that SEM/Ogun on hearing the broadcast immediately refuted Kings allegations and indicated they were going to take legal action, the BBC should have then had the sense to not re-broadcast the interview.
e.g If I said "James McDonnell is currently involved in a long term sexual relationship with a Hedgehog called Tarquin." It wouldn't be boxrec.com's fault, it would be mine. If you then informed boxrec you were taking legal action against me and boxrec knowingly re-published my comment they could be held liable for it, providing they, or I, couldn't prove the comment was true. I think.

The bottom line is that the BBC broadcasted Libelous remarks about Ogun.
Who said them is, to an extent, irrelevant.

The BBC have always used Boxing since it's "Re-emergance" as a time filler until they get Match Of The Day back, they treat there fans with contempt, one of the biggest examples is there choice of presenters and commentators. Jim Neilly is a Rugby commentator and that smug wanker Inverdale loves Tennis so why use them on Boxing? You wouldn't have Football or Snooker treated this way. As much as he tries hard that Roland guy is equally as inept and thank god they seem to have dropped Gary Richardson! Only Richie Woodhall offers sanity, Bunce is ok but come on he talks out of his arse! His quipped metaphors and unneeded enthusiasm leaves my head spinning, he tries so hard is his contract with the Beeb up for renewal?!
And while i am moaning, why do they have to split Grandstand Boxing into two parts? After the Pickering-Gigliotti fight they have to split back to the studio and talk bullshit and golf (more bullshit?!) before we see Molitor and Mackay which is cut to pieces anyway.
BAAAAHHHHH!!!!

That seems really rather ridiculous to me, speaking as a layman.
As they say '...the law is an ass'

This thread should be sent, in it's entireity, to Ben Anderson at the BBC who should answer these questions.
The guy wouldnt know a good boxing match in a million years.

Who is Ben Anderson, does he select their fights?

He works for the Head of BBC Boxing, Mike Lewis.
Ben Anderson makes most of the day to day decisions.

Now they've got the football back, watch boxing dissapear off the beeb again.

they'd be better off hiring a few of the posters from the British boxing forums, decent salary and wage plus all the perks
I can often slate Buncey for the smug git he is, but he knows his boxing and his enthusiasm shows through.
best bit of last year
Richie "I'd bet my house that Karmazin becomes a real world champ"

still waiting......he's a good boxer and looked a million dollars that night with Walker but comments like that are a bit premature!!
Buncey hits back....

Did the beeb 'blow it' when they wedged Audley up for the 10 fight deal ? How good a value was that expenditure ?
Whilst were on Audley;
Was Audley the sharpest man in boxing to scoop all that money for so little ? Is it any wonder he goes to America when people say he 'needs' to clear up the British domestic scene ?
He does'nt 'need' anything ! he may have gone 'only' to Brunel Uni',where as I went to Cambridge

but he's got a best mate who's a bank manager, and I've got an overdraft ! He may not have impressed in the ring so far for all you guys but how many fighters have the control over their careers that he does?Does the BBC have to justify their 'investment' to the license payer ? discuss

Yeah, he certainly coined it for fighting 10 nobodies. He also stipulated that none of his fights be shown after 11.00pm, which was clever. We have to thank Audley for bringing boxing back to the Beeb (reluctantly, in my opinion; you can imagine the Beeb's PC boys wincing at the viewing figures Audley attracted for fighting in the middle of the night in Sydney), but ITV have yet to follow suit. Until they do, the Beeb have no terrestrial competition to make them really sharpen up their act. I don't know about you, but I fell asleep watching the Gatti-Branco fight on Sunday night. Jim Neilly wasn't solely to blame. It was on too late again.

Yeh,I did actually fall asleep in round 11 ! I think commentators feel they should say something when sometimes we dont need any commentary !
I was at the BBC Sport Aid do last year speaking to the head dude of sports and basically it was apparent he knew little about boxing and only knew about Audley because he'd got a memo about it! because of the type of organisation it is,I think they'll fill the airtime with any old nonsense, regardless of quality or content. You cant exactly ring-up the beeb and cancel your subscription.Always comes back to the same old problem, the people at the top only know what they're told! They should change their name to the British Broadcasting Council and put Geoff Hoon in charge

!!!
