Haye's birthday is on Thursday and he has always said he'd retire. I know there was some talk of a fight with Vitali. Does anyone have any inside info or scandalous gossip?

hahaha. i am guessing there isn't as much 'will he, won't he' speculation as Haye might have envisaged, all that time ago when he set the deadline.

I bet when he did it he thought the whole world of british sport would be on tenterhooks, to see whether the man who 'saved heavyweight boxing' and 'changed the landscape', not to mention revitalising the whole concept of being a boxing promoter, would retire or not.

i hope he does retire, to a great big collective 'meh' from the UK sporting public.

The problem for haye is that he will never be able to beat either Wlad or Vitali..............

In this respect there is nothing else for him to fight for apart from money and trying to redeem some of his lost reputation after the Wladimir fight. He has beaten Valuez, become the WBA champion defended against Ruiz etc, so fighting other guys in the top ten would be akin to things he has already done. The only thing left on the heavyweight landscape for Haye is to fight either Vitali or Wladimir in a re-match, both of which are unlikely to happen anytime soon. The bigger point though is that Haye knows that realistically he doesn't have the size to challenge either man and be succesful, he is just too small. Against slower less able heavyweights such as Ruiz, Barret, Harrison, Valuev, he can execute and approach his fights in a similar manner to what he did at cruiserweight because of what is likely to come back at him. Against Wlad oir Vitali its a different thing, because they have greater movement, speed, strength, skills and speed, so the only chance Haye would have is if he mixed it up with either guy and hoped to catch them, but he knows that if anyone is likely to get knocked out with that approach it's Haye !!

There's a lot of truth in what you said and I also think Vitali would be an even harder fight for Haye. I don't think Haye is just in it for the money, but then all pro's get paid and there's nothing wrong with maximizing your earnings. I'd like to see him go to America and fight Arreolla, but hey, that's just me.

I agree with both of you. On the one hand, the last few years of his career have been 99% boring, and on the other, he has the potential to make very exciting fights. I wasn't disappointed with his performance against Wlad. He boxed very well, was never out of his depth, but ultimately didn't adapt to make things work. He survived instead. I think a fight with Vitali would be far more interesting, unless Haye decided to run all the time. I don't rate Vitali as high as most on here.

i think hell announce on his Brithday that a big Fight with vitali is agreed and thats why hes changing his mind .

Haye still a top fighter but didnt deliver after all the promise for years and poeple have totally tuned on him,

Fight with Vitali i would look forward to

HAYE is not going to retire in his prime when he can still be someone at the top of hw division, lets face it vitali hasnt got many fights left in him
i think hes going to fight vitali beat him an rematch wlad an do better this time

what's conversial about that...? Totally agree.

Cannot see him bothering to continue, unless he gets a really big money fight, and there's only two men who provide him with that, and I think he knows he has little chance of beating either.

The frustration for me of the Wlad fight was that Haye played it safe. If you look at the 12th round, he actually catches Wlad with a couple of big shots which clearly hurt Wlad but by then it was too little too late. I said before the fight that Haye's only chance was to put it on Wlad early and try to get him out of there. If that meant he got knocked out himself then so be it. Instead, he stood off and allowed Wlad to dominate the centre of the ring almost from the first bell.

I actually think a very aggressive Haye would give either Klitschko a very tough fight. Not saying he would win but he would do a hell of a lot better than most people think.

What I'd love is for Vitali and Haye to fight in the UK. The Klitschko's always take all the advantages in terms of venue (Adamek excepted) and it would be good to even it up a bit.

IF he secured a Vitali fight it'd be an easier sell than a Gary Glitter Xmas tour. But only just. Haye's 'I'll smash your face in' Tourette's would ring hopelessly hollow. If he secured a PPV deal the numbers would be grim as folk won't be fooled by the hyperbole twice.

Plus Vit would slowly and very surely break him down.

I really like Haye, and I hope he gets to box Vitali, if not, then it's hard to see him getting motivated for anyone else apart from Adamek maybe?

Anyone else not interested in watching Wlad vs past his best and a lot short, Mormek? I'm certainly not.

Haye will not retire, but I doubt we'll see him in action again until early summer 2012.

I have a feeling Haye-Vitali won't be easy to negotiate, because Haye will be demanding too much.

Matt, I admit that I am Fury's #1 fan, but even I admit that Haye is the man - for now. And Audley does count.
