I mean you find these fights utterly unwatchable.

Hatton v. Tszyu

Leonard v. Hagler

the no mas fight.

Ibeabuchi/Tua
Ali/Foreman

Overrated more than suck, but I have no desire to ever watch a second of either one of them again.

What? Ibeabuchi-Tua was a great fight. They set the record for most punches thrown and probably landed in a heavyweight fight. Why would someone not want to watch that again?

Hagler-Leonard sucked. It simply did not meet expectations.

nah that i agree with saad that is a really overrated fight, couldn't care less about compubox stats. i could think of so many better HW fights than Ibeabuchi/Tua that don't even get mentioned amongst other classics.
That was an all action fight. The compubox stats simply state the total punches thrown and landed but they didn't tell the whole story because both guys were landing vicious punches in that fight and that's what made it as good as it was. You two are very weird.

wouldn't say it sucked but sure didn't meet expectations. that had a lot to do with hagler's first four rounds and leonard's style of trying to steal rounds.
Well you think Ibeabuchi-Tua is overrated and I think Hagler-Leonard sucked. That's just the way it is.

i'd rather watch hagler/leonard against over ibeabuchi/tua any day of the week.
And I'm the complete opposite.

Ibeabuchi/Tua was a gnarly fight dude

Ibeabuchi-Tua is incredibly over-rated. Witherspoon-Mercer is a fight pretty much forgotten and that has as much sustained action with better skills and technique to boot. I mean hell the first 5-6 rounds of Tua-Ike is just Ike throwing lots of punches and Tua keeping a tight defense and looking like the complete non-punching tool he'd was always critiqued for later in his career. Then when he opens up the last 6 rounds it's a good fight, but nothing spectacular.

No drama for me, neither guy was hurt. It was like a video game on safe mode. Some of it may be that I didn't see it live and had heard so much hype over it. But it didn't do much for me. Solid fight with no replay value.

throw in de la hoya vs trinidad, de la hoya vs whitaker and whitaker vs chavez also sucked.

I definitely don't think it sucks, but I think Leonard-Hearns I is over-rated as a fight. I've seen it a few times and really have no inkling to ever see it again . . .don't think it was a FOTY.

Other over-rated fights that should have never won FOTY (by the Ring):

Walcott-Charles III (Great KO, but the fight was a feint-fest and clinch snoozer before the KO)

Marciano-Charles II (beyond the slashed nose, not a competitive fight nor entertaining to watch)

Clay(Ali) vs Jones (Not the near robbery many claim, and not a particularly exciting fight)

Young-Foreman (a few exciting moments but mostly a snoozer)

Holyfield-Tyson I (Evander made this an UGLY fight for 4/5 of the fight)

Sitchatchwal-Monshipour (Not a bad fight, but I always felt this was the fight boxing snobs loved to proclaim as so great b/c it wasn't shown on US TV and it was like a 'cult' fight . .good scrap but nothing better than you can find any night on Telefutura; Morales-Pacquao II was better in 2006)

Now on the topic of under-rated/unknown HW slugfests, try Darrol Wilson-Courage Tshabalaba: AWFUL ref but great back and forth drama.

Norton-Holmes. I think this fight is one of the most overrated in history. It has a few good rounds but for the most part features Holmes dominating with jab.

Those fights are known universally for sucking. I've never heard Whitaker/DelaHoya described as a classic. Are you looking for fights that had huge hype behind them and turned out to be bad?

Hagler/Hearns

Sue me.

Great fight. I know how big it was. I knew the result when I first watched it. Great action but those who watched it live view it way higher than me. I lack the historical perspective of not being alive at the time.

Oh and not suck, just overrated.

The Gatti/Ward trilogy. Yes, even the first fight (which I thought Gatti won handily apart from the knockdown and late rounds slugging). Following the trend of fights that didn't suck, but were overrated. Gatti's fights with Ivan Robinson were vastly superior, in my opinion.

I retract my vote and go with king carlos. I have always been mystified that people think the Gatti Ward trilogy was so great. It was one of those things where because Gatti and Ward had the reputation for highlight type fights people thought it couldnt miss and was overhyped before and has become way overhyped since. People seemed to lose sight of the fact that Ward had highlights because he would do nothing for round after round after round before finally opening up, breaking through and maybe scoring a KO (the only fight I ever saw him fight the whole way through was against Emmanuel Augustus and he got a gift decision in that fight which is what got him the rep as an action fighter). Gatti was simply the better fighter, but he still wasnt that great himself so he allowed Ward to have his moments. But for the most part Gatti was in control through all three fights and deserved all three.

Yeah it was, the first fight was epic. But I agree that the trilogy is immensely overrated.

Leonard vs Hearns I is one of my favourite fights, the puncher outboxing the boxer and the boxer outpunching the puncher.

Sure, there have been more action packed fights, but the fight was gripping throughout and the quality of the two fighters makes it all the better for me.

I'm not sure I've ever heard anyone say DLH vs Tito was a good fight, to be honest most of Oscar's fights were a let down, Mosley and Vargas aside.

I thought it had two great rounds and 10 pedestrian ones. That fight fits perfectly in here for me.

Gatti-Ward..

People always bring up their three fights as if it's the greatst trilogy ever but i dont even count this as anything near great. If you're into bar room brawls and C level fighters swinging for the fences, try watching thunderbox or someshit but it aint for me. Two skill challenged guys swinging wildly and blocking punches with their face does nothing for me cuz that's not what Boxing is about.

I doubt there has been a more greatly anticipated fight than Jeffries-Johnson on July 4, 1910. . . and it turned out to be a complete dud.

Were you even around during that time? You speak as if you did..

Unless you've actually lived through those events, it's really hard to speak on it..
