what does everyone think of him?is he world class material?

Possibly, but he doesn't have good enough reflexes to carry his style up in class. I'm not suggesting he turns peek a boo or something, but he definately should keep his hands a little higher. Most importantly though he needs to keep his chin down.
Potential world class? Yes, but only with some fine tuning.

I think a hell of a lot of David Haye, and yes he is world class material.
A lot of people seem to suddenly be somewhat down on him for getting decked against Mock, but fornicate it..... he got up, got on with it, and won the fight. How sweet was that uppercut..???
He'll learn from that and go on to be something special I would imagine. He's got the solid amateur grounding, every shot in the book, speed, power. If he could just keep his left hand up (he might get found out by top slot fighters otherwise) who is going to beat him?
I'm looking forward to him nailing Swaby in due course.

Not yet. He hasn't even been beyond four rounds as a pro. Let him get past Swaby, then Hobson, and we'll be in a better position to answer your question.
PS: I know Enzo has yet to go past four rounds either, but I don't regard WBU champs as world champs.

Bennie - I might live to eat my words, but comparing Swaby with Haye is like comparing a turd with ebony.
Haye will be British champ before the year is out.

Since when did I compare them? I said let Haye get past him...

Fair enough, but Mock would take care of Swaby anyway, and on paper was a big step up for Haye so early on.
It like saying "let Miguel Cotto get past Alan Bosworth..."

I think you're selling Swaby very short indeed.

Well....the guy is limited.
I'm not saying he isn't "tough", and his record suggests hes a very durable fighter, but I fail to see him upsetting the golden goose somehow....

I don't want to get into a ruck, but Mock was just a light-heavy. Swaby is a far bigger step up. He's lost only one of his last 11, on a razor thin decision to current British and Commonwealth champ Mark Hobson in Hobson's own hometown of Huddersfield. He floored Hobson twice.
He's currently on a winning run of five. This is the best opponent Haye has met to date by far.

Who is suggesting a ruck? I'm not Spud. It's just differing opinions, which is fine.
Haye KO4 Swaby.

By ruck, I mean debate. And I have my own agenda in truth with Swaby. I want to see him perform well so he can put himself in position for a rematch with Enzo. It's shameful how he's never mentioned as a potential Maccarinelli opponent when he's the only man to have beaten the big Welshman (flattening him). But if he performs well against Haye, then the drum will beat...

If you look at Braithwait as world class..i think David is heading in the right direction.

Well observed.

Yes it is, I totally agree. Haye likes to counter, and he uses little feints to bring his opponent on.
He does have very fast hands, but I don't think his reflexes are as good as he thinks they are. He is also very flat footed, that may be a style issue more than anything, but that statue-like posing style of his won't work against a cruiserweight
What worries me is that Haye's power will allow him to keep winning without him confronting his defensive frailties, it's often the case with punchers that they don't get exposed until late in their career, and by then it's very hard to make adjustments.
Mock was meant to be a totally safe bet. Not only was he a light heavyweight
There's no crime in getting tagged and knocked down, but there are FAR bigger punchers than Mock in the division, and fighters with better handspeed and accuracy to go with it.
The shot Mock tagged Haye with repeatedly, and the one that put him down, was a wildly looping overhand right, it's not like Mock is some kind of sharpshooting Assassin. Haye either had no respect for his opponent's power, or couldn't get out of the way of those shots even after he'd been decked. Against a big puncher, you cannot just bang your way out of trouble.
As I've droned on endlessly, Haye will have to really work on his defence if he wants to be the top dog. Luckily or unluckily depending on how you look at it with the cruiserweight division as weak as it is, he will probably get quite near the top of the ladder before he has to make those adjustments.
Haye has some top quality tools, fantastic handspeed and punchpower but I am still yet to be convinced.

I neglected to mention that Mock was not only a light heavyweight, but was harly known as a big puncher either.

As tests go, Swaby is the man to test anyones potential. Though saying this I think Haye will come through. Offensively, Haye is very exciting so while I admit has alot to learn, domestically he has no problems. Power alone, this guy is world class.

Didn't Swaby say they offered him an Enzo rematch in that recent interview? Which I thought was a bit of a surprise..but he opted for the Haye fight instead, and plans to deal with Enzo later 8)
This could be a dangerous fight for Haye, he should win it yes, but he'll have to be careful. What with that glass temple and all

I read a few words from Swaby talking like he is RJJ about what he is going to do to Haye.
Can't remember the exact words (britishboxing.com is not working at the moment) but do fighters really believe they will win against superior opponents?! Surely if you are skilful enough to fight you should have the knowledge to know your limitations!
Will Swaby issue an apology for his misplaced words when he loses?
Haye will KO Swaby within 3 max.

Welcome to the forum, mate.
Haye has been doing plenty of talking himself. In fact, SecondsOut.com did a piece on Haye firstly, in which the Bermondsey star was bragging about just needing to turn up to win.
A week later, Swaby was given the right to answer. Answer he did.

david haye is a fascinating subject
![[icon_e_biggrin.gif] :D](./images/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif)
firstly he has bundles of ability and looks on the surface to be definite world class but on the other hand he has been badly knocked out a few times in the amateurs and now has been dropped in the pro's and as we know to make it at the top u need more than ability alone.
imagine haye in with someone like the wbc champ wayne braithwaite with haye's defence he'd be out of there in next to no time

Swaby will be able to handle the Hayemakers for a couple of rounds but will finally be put away in the fourth.

I met Haye for the first time on Saturday night at Wembley and was taken aback about how slight he looked. He looked, for want of a better word, almost spidery. Said his training was going well for Swaby.
For a cruiserweight, I expected him to be a bit bigger and broader.
Swaby's a good home-grown test at this stage for his career and he's an awkward, strong fighter who will give Haye at least a few good rounds.
