Leonard by decision, judges loved his flashy style and Mccallum would have problems chasing him down.

If its 160lbs it would have been in the late 80s / early 90s with McCallum at his peak and Leonard on the way down, McCallum by unaninimous points win and maybe scoring knockdowns as well

a more interesting match-up would be the kalambay that fought mccallum (in their first fight) vs. SRL at 160. ive never seen someone (when he was still around his prime years) have such an easy time w/mccallum the way kalambay did in their first fight. such an underrated boxer
good shout. McCallum made some good adjustments in the second fight and still Kalumbay gave him a really good fight.

At 154 I'd favour Leonard. He'd be quicker off the draw time and time again, leading to a clear, but obviously very competitive, points decision.

Mike McCallum had trouble beating the very slick Herol Graham, no way he beats SRL.
SRL wins UD at any weight.

I think Graham and Kalambay are good measuring sticks. But let's not forget that Leonard was not as amazing at 154 and 160 as he was at 147.

If a peaking Mike meets the Leonard who fought Howard he wins. We really have Leonard versus Kalule, Howard and Hagler to go on. I think over 15 rounds this is a very hard fight for both men.

Leonard also stopped Tony Chiaverni and Fernando Marcotte at Jr Middleweight. He also won a decision over Marcus Geraldo who weighed 160 to Leonard's 153.

LOL, that and a quarter will get you a bag of chips.

Leonard handled a prime Kalule at 154 better than McCallum handled the badly weight-drained version, although Kalule gave a pretty good account of himself in both fights.

The great Mike McCallum in his prime beats a great Sugar Ray Leonard at 154lbs and above. Leonard from 154lbs and up was not that good.

They were not legends or anything like that. However they were decent. Chiaverni was a top 10 contender. Geraldo held his own against Hagler. Just saying that Leonard had several fights above 147.

I watched both fights live. It just has about as much bearing as mentioning that McCallum beat Sean Mannion & Tony braxton.

Edit:Chiavereni and Geraldo that is. I don't think Marcotte was televised.

They are just more evidence that Leonard could fight above 147; that's all.

Obviously he could, did anyone question that? But I wouldn't use any of those fights as evidence. That just proves he could beat vastly inferior opposition and Geraldo gave him some trouble.

Ezzard said that with Leonard above 147 "We really have Leonard versus Kalule, Howard and Hagler to go on". I responded to his post and mentioned 3 more. Thats all. You can go back further in this thread and see this.

I don't need to go back further, he didn't mention them because they aren't relevant to a match up with McCallum. You're exhausting to converse with. It was merely a joke, lets get on with our lives.

They are certainly more relevant than the fight vs Kevin Howard. I do agree with you on one thing; lets move on.

One of my favourites, he was considered an also ran and capable journeyman back in late 86, but that streak he went on outboxing guys like herol graham and mike mccallum and iran Barkley.....man he was a talent as he got older was Kalambay....such a shame we didnt get to see him do himself justice with nunn.....Nunn just too him out with one shot in a match that was supposed to be a chessmatch between 2 master boxers.......conceivably than the great SRL could also have done so.....not as interesting as a match between SRL and mccallum

x2. Easy win for MM, even with iffy judges. I see 3 or 4 KD's and even Leonards tame judges couldn't ignore them.
