I saw him work once, when I was just a young lad. Good jab, could punch holes in a bank vault with his right hand, but seemed to start fading early. I think he won that fight, but he looked as if he could have ruled the light heavies with a little more polish and stamina........JMHO :)

Was he tall as the great Carlos Monzon when he was the middleweight contender?

No, he didn't get to be tall as Carlos Monzon until he was a light heavyweight

Probably his two fights against Bennie Briscoe and Matthew Saad Muhammad. I believe he nearly stopped Muhammad before getting stopped himself.

He was a better than average journeyman. Had he been pampered and groomed he would have been a top ten fighter and contender. He took a lot of fights on one or two day notice and often when he was in decent -but not terrific- shape. I have a couple of his fights on film and he was competent boxer with a fair punch.

Kovit, Billy Douglas was a very tough contender a very good slugger who could give any of the top contenders in either the lightheavy or Middleweight divisions in the 70s when both divisions were laden with golden talent... sort of fighter that if he was around now would be a 'world champion'......
