The truth is, back in May, Tony had an opportunity to fight for a World Title (which honestly came out of the blue for him) and he fucked things up for himself by not making the weight and he had to pull out of the title fight.

To be fair, it was good of Nathan to give Bellew another chance, (Tony should be grateful) Bellew even had his shot in his hometown and he still couldn't do the job.

Looking at it this way, he's had 2 chances to fight Cleverly for a Word Title and he couldn't dso it twice, he really needs to shut up and look at fighting someone like Tony Dobson so get things back on track..

As far as i am aware Bellew has said that he felt he needed eight rounds to clearly take the title off Cleverley and in his mind got only six of the rounds. He has stated that he thinks Cleverley is a great boxer who he has gained a lot of respect for and has given all indication that he has accepted that he wasn't good enough on the night, even though it was a close fight. The only thing that Bellew has complained about was Dave Parris who scored the bout 117-112, which was way out. If he got the fight out of the blue in May, there was always going to be some doubt as to whether he could make the weight in a short period of time, because we know he has issues making the weight at light heavyweight.

Bellew was a late-notice opponent for a promotion in danger of imploding back in. His mouth made it interesting but he couldn't make the weight. I'd hardly say that was fkking it up? Bizarre comment.

Cleverly wasn't KIND to give him another shot, he was well advised, providing as it did a full house and a cracking evening against someone with tangibly shallow qualification for a supposed world-title fight. The fact it proved razor tight and a pulsating contest was a bonus and testimony to either Bellew's unexpected ability or the over-rating of Nathan's - or perhaps the truth is in the middle. TB is a bit better than thought and Nath not quite as.

I have to qualify that last point however by reminding everyone that Cleverly is not a world-champion. He holds a meaningless bit of metalwork and is merely a top 10 contender.

So please lets not make out that he's some sort of 175 pound Louis XIV and all challengers should be direct descendents of Michael Spinks or have a record like Apollo Creed.

To me, he's a talented guy who just won the right to be called the best Light-Heavyweight in the UK, and maybe, maybe, Europe.

Really am surprised with some of the remarks being made since the fight happened. Both Bomber and Clev have been respectful of one another - no one has been bitter.

As you've said, Tony thought he won six of the rounds which constitutes a draw; and he also believes Parris' scoring was disgraceful, which is what so many think.

This post-fight negativity has arisen out of nothing and it's starting to pour scourn on what was a quality fight.

I agree with that last line, the world championship belts are given out like smarties these days and Cleverley has one, but that doesn't mean he is ready to take on Hopkins, Dawson, Cloud or Pascal. If you were being generous you would say the latter two would be good fights, but Hopkins and Dawson are a step too far at this stage.

the judges wasnt judging two fighters they were judging cleverley the touted prospect v the loud mouth untested scouser.i thought it was a very close contest & you have to be sorry there is a loser in this type of fight & so what if bellew aint settling for defeat they both laid it on the line & are entitled to feel dissapointed.

There are complete helmets on here at times.

It was an excellent fight, two brits going at it, what we all want and have whinged about time after time.

Bellew proved himself to be a very good fighter and Clev proved the same.

Who gives a monkeys about 'levels' it was a good fight full stop between two good fighters and after what transpired afterwards two good men it would seem.

Seriously, some increased moderation would go down a treat on here to remove some of the absolute trolls that seem to come on here more and more often.

Spot on Tony and good luck for the future, it was a belter of a fight and could of gone either way, i thought it was even going into the last and thought Cleverly might of nicked the last, but like I said could of gone either way, take no notice to Crease & Realistic (BELLENDS) obviously no nothing about boxing. Tony you will of only gained more fans with your performance and your post fight interview, you talked with a lot of emotion and dignity, ask Frank to get you back on at the echo, the atmosphere was great, and Tony i am sure your two boys are very proud of you!

Tony. Firstly - thankyou very much for your part in giving all us boxing fans a terrific fight.
You and Nathan provided a first class exhibition of the best of Britain.
I'm pretty sure with your promoters proven track record. It won't be long before your fighting for another world title.


Finally. And i am not trying to be disrespectful to you. But you did lose the fight. Not one of the official judges had you winning, and the majority here had you a point or two behind too.
An immediate rematch isn't likely to happen. There was no surprises when the winner was anounced.
Nathan does not need to prove anything more to you - or your fans.
He did what you said he would not and could not ...

Great post. I echo every line of it.

My view in this is that although i wanted Bellew to win i didnt think he did , i scored it 115-114 to cleverly .

But .... i do think Bellew showed that he can live at that sort of level , Would he win a rematch ?? i dont know as although Tony will believe he can improve id say Cleverly will also improve .

My opinion is that Bellew should make one more british title defence before having a crack at the european title , and go from there , he can get back into the title picture at world level but i think he might have to earn a rematch .

I think he may now be on a collision course with Enzo Mac , a fight that will gain major interest , maybe if worked right , with the right matchmaking etc it could end up a title eliminator , Maybe that is the route for Bellew to get his rematch .

Regardless of the result i do think Tony can hold his head up high , he in no way disgraced himself whatsoever .

I think you know in your heart what people in this forum think of you and your performance against Cleverley. Unfortunately you will always get people with an agenda or with an eye to try and wind somebody up. I think you will get a re-match with Cleverley again, now whether that is for a world title fight, who knows, because it depends on how well Cleverley does, but i'm hoping that you two can get the fight fixed by spring next year.

For once and for all Tony, you proved to people what a good fighter you are and 99.9% of people on here are proud of you mate
