Its a good read. Shows how boxing even at that level isn't all rainbows and butterflies. I hope Darren is enjoying his new house anyway he certainly has earn't it

Nice to see boxing getting exposure in the nationals other than a story about Hatton/Haye/Audley/Floyd /Pac

The only paper that seems to regularly put small articles (and sometimes they really can be tiny!!) is the Daily Mirror

No worries I thought it was a decent piece and like you thought the Matchroom not taking a big chunk was good to read

Was nice of Matchroom for not taking a big chunk of his purse, but instead taking the money they made from tv, then again it prob got them more money than taking it from his purse, so not really letting him off were they.

Good article, it's unusual to hear fight fees talked about openly. Interesting to here he's thinking of quitting. He seems a good bloke who's been through a lot, so I hope he makes the right decision for him.

Exactly, Eddie brokered the fight with Lou / HBO and deserves credit but also something for his efforts.

Only repeating what Martin Power said in a thread last week.

Darren Barker is a credit to the sport, the man has it all. He's skilful, he's in a busy division, he's got heart, he wants to fight the best, he's a great bloke, he is articulate when covering boxing on the television, he's got the back story, and he did himself proud when he fought 'the man'. I think Barker deserves at least a couple more paydays, but he can hold his head high whatever he does.

I don't think its the end of the road for Barker & he defo didn't take a dive. Why would he show so much courage & take that amount of stick through the fight then suddenly take a dive? I thought he actually showed a lot of heart and gave a good account of himself both in and out of the ring. It was a huge step up in class & he was competitive for most of the fight. The better man won on the day, another day maybe Barker will do better still. I reckon he'll have learned a lot in that fight. Now he could fight the Macklins, Murrays, Geales & Sturms of the world, he has nothing to fear from any of them. All of those would make for good viewing and earn him a few more quid. Good luck Darren Barker, a credit to himself, his family, his supporters & British boxing.

Really good piece of writing IMO, sometimes it's useful being outside the loop, we can get too close to give a good overview of a situation

Incredible Matchroom paid Barker 40k for the Spada fight. Didn't go to purse bids did it? Way over the odds.
