I see from Bob Mee's article that fights in Atlantic City are picking up this year. Has anyone been there recently? Anyone I speak to tells me it's fvckin horrible - like Las Vegas's inbred, Ginger, dirty, retarded half-brother.

I must admit this really put me off going there; eg for Froch-Ward. Has anyone been there recently and had a reasonable experience?

Southend on steroids. Main venue's cavernous but ok, normally a smaller casino show around a big fight, seedy old hole and don't go too far from the Boardwalk unless you like being stabbed. But it's ok, you'd enjoy a trip there, I'm sure. Just don't expect Vegas

It's OK for 1-2 days. Combine with a trip to Philadelphia or NY.

Essentially, the only things to do in AC are gamble, eat or go to the outlet mall (where there is actually no sales tax, so it's very cheap).

If I go, I'm working, so it's a bit different, but I agree - combining with Philadelphia or New York is a good way to do it - especially in winter when it's a bit bleak in any seaside town. Nowhere near as dangerous as it was as long as you're half-sensible and as with going anywhere it depends what you want to make of it. Maybe underneath it all I've developed a grim fondness for the place. I do know people who love it...

With Bob on the perverse affection front. It's a charming hole and relatively safe if you don't go more than one block inland of the Boardwalk, after which the rules change and it stops catering for tourists as much. Indeed, not a lot to do bar eat, drink and gamble, but I vastly prefer it to NYC - or most US cities bar Boston, which is maybe a bit far to visit on a short trip. But 3/4 days in AC around a fight is fine as long as you don't go expecting Vegas

Philadelphia is a top place. And you can't miss the chance of a picture on the Rocky steps!

As much as I hate to admit it. You have summed my hometown up. Nothing to do other then gamble or drink. As said don't venture off the main strip. Or for that matter go past the area where Resorts casino is. It is however much better then it was in the 80's.

That said, it's near NYC which is the greatest city in the world (Glyn, let me take you out next time you are there) and Philly which is so much fun.

Base yourself in one of those places and build in the cost of a driver to transit you to AC.

Not trying to sound like a snob, but the people on the train, and the transit from the station at AC to your casino, are precisely why I get a driver.

Yeah I'd tend to agree with Bob & Glyn. I likened it to Blackpool on crack with guns. I was there on Halloween too, which I'm sure added to it.

Its certainly closet to Blackpool than Vegas.

You can definitely get to AC and back from New York for nothing, the casinos run buses back and forward. You can actually end up in pocket because they give you vouchers to have a free bet with. Best thing to do would be contact one of the big casinos like Ballys or the Trump Taj Mahal, and find out when and where the buses leave from NYC. You get to travel with some real life New York scuzzbags too, which is an eye opener. The cab fare has to be over 100 dollars each way, so it's a worthwhile saving if you aren't too proud to slum it.

Great descriptions of AC, although it sounds like a complete toilet I feel the urge to visit it. Coney Island is another one I'd like to see for the Warriors link and the freak show there.
