I'm not saying Fury is a world beater !!! but I reckon he outpoints Povetkin who has looked awful the last few times I have seen him

He seems to lack power and usually struggles with B - level opposition, I don't why he rated so highly!

im fairly sure even a half-motivated Povetkin could be expected to connect with greater power, accuracy and frequency than either Chisora or Firtha...both of whom had him in serious trouble

No, but its a fight i can see being made for spring next year.

I geniunally believe that Tyson Fury can beat Alexander Povetkin in my opinion, because it will be the first time he will fight for a World title and he will be extremely motivated and willing to show that he is not only a top 10 Heavyweight but a future World Champion and he will get himself in such excellent shape physically and mentally that he would not only beat Povetkin, but do it by a wide margin to a issue a statement of intent that he is one for the future.

It's not a fight I'd pursue immediately, but I wouldn't make him any more than a 2/1 underdog.

Povetkin has slipped a long way from the seemingly top class prospect that thrashed Chris Byrd, Larry Donald and Eddie Chambers.

Sometimes in boxing the loser of a fight goes on to do better than the winner, but the difference between Chambers and Povetkin since then is pretty big. The fat ass got himself in shape and has done alright for himself, bar the bad defeat to Klitschko of course. Povetkin has had long spells on the sidelines, and fought bums (generally) in between.

I think Povektin is very over-rated, marginally more than Fury. They don't really need to fight eachother, not yet anyway.
I think Fury should try and win the European title first.

I'd fancy his chances and he wouldnt be a big underdog.

Fury gave Helenious and G'benga some serious sparring 2+ years ago.

Povetkin is declining between fights for some reason and \Fury is improving between fights, next year i think it would make a competative fight.

Two of my favourite fighters on the same thread.

Fury is going to grab a wedge of the world title, but apart from the Klitschkos, Povetkin is the only other heavyweight that beats him.

Technically Povetkin is very correct, he throws a lovely jab and works in nice combinations, his workrate is high and his accuracy is brilliant. I can't see Fury troubling him to much, I can't see Fury making his jab count And keeping povetkin behind it, this will allow povetkin in and outwork him inside before keeping tight on the outside jabbing his way in and outworking fury on the inside. I could maybe see a late povetkin stoppage or a landslide decision. Way too early for fury he really needs to improve before these fights get talked about IMO. The likes of Sprott, Sexton, Sosnowski are the sorts of fights he needs

If I were a HW contender, I'd target Povetkin not one of the Klitschkos, and after taking Povetkin's paper belt I'd go after a Klitschko for a bigger payday.

I watched the replay of Povetkin v Chagaev on Eurosport last night. Fury does not beat Povetkin.

I thought Povetkin showed a lot of guts in that fight. His preparations were poor and Atlas only joined late in the day, but he found a way to win. I think the win will give him confidence and if he can improve his fitness, he will be very hard to beat.

I have been saying for a while now that the heavyweight division is pathetic, apart from the Klitschko's who can only fight who is put in front of them, though they do seem to prefer to fight midgets these days !! You are virtually saying that a guy who has beaten a few half decent domestic fighters and knocked out a few overweight European journeyman can beat the current WBA heavyweight champion of the world. Fury is exciting and he is progressing, but he has not even proved that he is the best Domestic heavyweight yet and in some of his fights he has been a few punches away from being knocked out. He has a lot to learn and i think his personality, name, media attention give him more qudos that he actually deserves, plus he has gained too much credit in beating Chisora, primarly because of the false level that people thought Chisora was at due to his title shot against Klitschko. I like Fury, he is good to watch, but he has yet to prove himself fully in the small pond that is the domestic scene.........Hold your horses fellas' !!!!!

Good post. Fury might do something (and I really hope he does), but we haven't seen enough yet to think he can mix it at championship level.

Being the British heavyweight champion doesn't mean you are two or three fights away from being able to compete at world level. He has to face Price to say that he is perhaps the best domestic heavyweight and i still feel that the likes of Rogan, Skelton and Sprott could give him a lot of trouble. Raising your profile and being in the media a lot may make you a viable opponent for a title shot on ticket sales alone, but that doesn't mean you are ready to have that fight.

Any still think Fury could Povetkin? Pajkic (who has no power and horrible technique) dropped Fury hard and landed almost at will. .

Keith, each time out Fury is making your predictions harder to believe.
