Re: James Toney Vs Rocky Marciano

Laying on the ropes and countering isn't a good idea against Marciano. He would sledgehammer Toney's sides and arms until he was too exhausted to punch.
Hey Mark, good thread.... where ever did you get the idea?BIGMARK wrote:This would of been a great match up, I'm talking the Toney that beat Jirov / Holyfield against prime Rocky. the size difference wouldn't be that great and to see Rocky's heart / aggression against Toney's boxing brain / chin / defence would be a treat.
Who wins and how?
I just want to know what you have against James Toney . . .BIGMARK wrote:This would of been a great match up, I'm talking the Toney that beat Jirov / Holyfield against prime Rocky. the size difference wouldn't be that great and to see Rocky's heart / aggression against Toney's boxing brain / chin / defence would be a treat.

Before fighting Marciano, Moore was stopped by the following fighters:BIGMARK wrote:I thought he was KO several times but Rocky was the first to do it, I just read he drew his first fight AKA BHOP and he lost only the one time by UD before fighting Marciano. I think he must of been close to 40 in that fightSaadOffTheDeck wrote:Yes he was, several times.
Moore scored a flash knockdown in the second round. He was knocked down five times himself.BIGMARK wrote:Didn't Moore floor Rocky?
I can only remember Toney hitting the deck once and that was against Jones Jnr
You can see it on youtube.BIGMARK wrote:I'm just reading about that fight nowraylawpc wrote:Moore scored a flash knockdown in the second round. He was knocked down five times himself.BIGMARK wrote:Didn't Moore floor Rocky?

I don't think he would have any success keeping him off of him. It has some stylistic intrigue, but i don't see it being competitive, much less classic.BIGMARK wrote:This is what I think makes the fight so interesting because rocky would no doubt be the stronger man while Toney is the better boxer. How much success would Toney have keeping Rocky off him and doing what you said.SaadOffTheDeck wrote:Laying on the ropes and countering isn't a good idea against Marciano. This is a classic match up
I'm not sure where you're reading this, but this site can shore that up for you.BIGMARK wrote:I thought he was KO several times but Rocky was the first to do it, I just read he drew his first fight AKA BHOP and he lost only the one time by UD before fighting Marciano. Johnson was a real knockdown, I thought it was enough to win the fight.Seamus wrote:Reggie Johnson decked Toney in what I think was his 2nd MW title defense. It was a very close fight that could have gone either way, and Sam Peter dropped Lights Out, as well in there 2nd bout.
Put that pint down Mark.BIGMARK wrote:I completly forgot about the Johnson fightSeamus wrote:Reggie Johnson decked Toney in what I think was his 2nd MW title defense. Reggie Johnson and Sam Peter knocked him down. Jones bodychecked him, that shouldn't have been counted.BIGMARK wrote:Didn't Moore floor Rocky?

Jones hit him, he lost his balance and went down. It was a legit knockdown.mrbassie wrote:Reggie Johnson and Sam Peter knocked him down. Jones bodychecked him, that shouldn't have been counted.BIGMARK wrote:Didn't Moore floor Rocky?

Let me guess, you're a Toney fan.Goodnight, Irene wrote:As usual Keith, you dont have a clue.
a punch did land but it was jones jumping into him which put him over, that's not a knockdown in my eyes.keithmoonhangover wrote:Jones hit him, he lost his balance and went down.
