Deuk-Koo Kim Question?

Guys,

I read by all accounts that Deuk-Koo-Kim challenged Ray Mancini for the WBA Lightweight title and died within days of injuries suffered in the fight. Yet, former boxing writer Herbert G. Goldmen in his "Ask the Answerman" column (Ring, December 1987) answers a question from a reader with regard to could he offer proof from an independent investigation that fights were not fixed. Goldman gave a very suspicious answer in his colum, mentioning several fights that were "fixed" and said among other fighters mentioned that, Kim was not even the boxers' real name. Mr. Goldmen said that Deuk-Koo-Kim was really "Sammy Wong" who was an Asian movie actor who specialized in movie death scenes. There are other accusations that he made, but I can not find any evidence to support Mr. Goldmen's statements. There is no 'Sammy Wong" in association with Mr. Kim. I hope I have the date right of this Ring article. You should check it out and let me know what you think.

mr. "sammy wong" took quite a beating in that fight, i don't think it was faked. i heard duk koo kim was actually had some other name, but to suggest an actor could go 14 rounds with ray mancini is bullshit.

That account of the Mancini-Kim fight is perhaps the most ludicrous, idiotic and insulting thing I have ever read concerning the sport of boxing. Were all of Kim's other fights faked too? His amateur career? What about the first 10 rounds, when he gave Mancini hell?

What a load of crap.
