What's your thoughts on Paul smith were does he go now does he go back and rebuild r call it a day was he caught could last night I don't think he was it was Perfect shot thoughts

Move back down to Middleweight (where he should always be) and rebuild from there. Should Martin Murray lose to Sturm, he could surely be given a shot at him.

Shame, he made a bright start - just got caught with a beauty.

yeah I would like to see him give it a go at mw, I was a bit suprised he took the Groves fight especially when he started off well at mw, I think he would do alright there

I shouldn't have laughed, but it was funny to see Smith look down at his legs - you could see him thinking "where the fornicate are you two off to". Gotta love a good dance in the ring and that was indeed a good one.

Liverpool boxer Paul Smith insists George Groves will not have the punching power to frighten him when they meet in London on Saturday night.

Smith, 28, challenges Groves, 23, for the British and Commonwealth super-middleweight titles at Wembley Arena.

"I don't think he can punch as hard as everyone thinks," said Smith.

"When have we seen a knockout when he's had a kid out cold? Every stoppage he's had they've been on their feet or gone down and got back up."

He told BBC Radio Merseyside: "I've had 17 knockouts and, if you look at them, every single one has hit the floor hard.

"They've stayed there while the count has been called and there are paramedics called in straight away.

"The difference in punch power between the two of us is definitely in my favour."

Smith hopes that victory on Saturday night will help to set up a rematch with European champion James DeGale and is confident he will get the job done against Groves.

"I know I can hit," said Smith, who lost the British title to DeGale last December. "And I know what will happen when I catch George Groves. I think he knows what's going to happen when I catch him.

"The noises and the sounds he's making before this fight suggest so as well. All he keeps on going on about are the questions I'm going to ask him."

Didn't he call Groves a "little idiot" after he beat Paul Samuels last time out before last night's fight?

I bet Paul is probably cringing at that interview somewhat today.

I don't think he was hurt, just one of those shots that rob your legs. He looked keen to continue. I think he had more to offer and that's what will annoy him, the fact the chance has now passed him by.

With regards middleweight, I heard he's tight at 168 and making 160 is tough.

He can come again.

Smith showed at the end of the 1st he could be dangerous had the fight gone on, but the problem is when you're fighting somebody naturally bigger, who's probably that fair bit more naturally talented it's going to be hard to keep on top and away from harm for 12rds.

Smith against Murray at middleweight is very much a 50/50 fight, and a much more even matchup in terms of size etc. He's definitely not shot and has a lot to offer Brittish boxing at title level so long as its at middleweight.

Wouldnt mind seeing a fight against Mendy next.

For me, he doesn't deserve to walk straight back into major title contention at 160.

The man is deluded and will be exposed again against any decent level of competition, even at 160.

I think Murray wouldn't have a problem smith Murray would be to strong for him and why should smith box some one in tittle contention any how

I don't want to kick a man when he's down but I've never been impressed by Smith. He's average in all departments. The fights that confirmed this to me were the Bendall, Dodson and Quigley fights where he lost to the former and struggled massively with the others. Any decent level operator would have no trouble in fights like this.

I also feel his so-called power is overrated.

He should drop to middleweight and go for the English title, or a British title eliminator. He shouldn't get a straight shot at a British title again before he gets another decent win.

He needs to have a long think, it could of been just a great shot he didn't see and he will be able to come back from it to fight at a good level again, or it could be that his punch resistence has gone , as he seemed in control of his head but not his legs last night.

achieved his level been british champ done well-should retire and be successful at something else- think to drop to middle would be hard and with both murray macklin and saunders there its hardy a formality.
i liked his input when he was on here and he seems a nice guy when interviewed but guess he'll take a rest and think it through

There are still good fights out there for him. He is far too young to be retiring yet. He should move down to middle where he should have always been fighting and work his way through domestic ranks and show if he is good enough, there are definately good fights to be had at middle so needs to get back to training, lose the pounds and get back in the ring soon with a view to working to title fight by next summer.

Steven Bendall had a fight recently what about a rematch with him?

he got chinned simple as. he wasnt caught cold he was pressing with his hands high & in the rd before landed a big bomb fully flush on groves who wasnt walking back on drunken legs.

i dont think smith is disrespectfull how he was spouting off pre fight. i think he likes to listen to himself to help him convince himself imo.

smith is no more then a middle who cant make it. you look at groves & degale who were big lumps at 75k as teens were paul was a small 71kg.

degale & groves are world class prospects & smith is nothing more then domestic class

Re the slagging he's getting for comments made, he's selling a fight. What do you want him to do?

How many top fighters at 160/168/175 would have been caught by that shot?...

Not the first time he's run his mouth and it won't be the last. DeGale was "an idiot", Groves "doesn't punch as hard as he thinks he does" and "isn't as good as people think he is"...Need we really say any more, the guy likes to talk the talk but cannot walk the walk.

You could see a spare tire on him last night, if he's tight at 168 he's really not trying to cut weight at all.
