Very interesting if Mr Smith has indeed confirmed that fighters have complained about not being paid.

Hopefully the BBBoC will respond with a statement soon on this crucial issue, naming and suspending any licence holders who aren't paying their boxers.

I know its shocking considering the risk they go through.

Where's a boxing union when you need one?

If multi-millionaire footballers can have Gordon Taylor pipe up for them when they've been fined or sacked for refusing to work or for having illegal substances found in their system, surely there is a need for an organisation who could protect boxers from the shadier behaviours of those taking their wedge out of the sport?

What's more extraordinary is that the fighters themselves don't kick up a stink. If my wages didn't hit my account at midnight on payday, I'd be getting abusive on the phone to someone to rectify the matter. And I rarely get punched in the face as a result of the work I do.

Unless this is our lovable Mr Essex trying to insinuate something about his competitors that has a limited basis in fact? If there is any truth in this, it is an utter scandal.

i know a fighter that boxed not long ago and his promoter said that if he didn't sell 200 ticket then he will not be paid .......... well this sort of thing is bang out of order what some promoters dont seem to realise is everyone works for the boxer and not the other way round if i boxed and a promoter tried this with me i think i'd lose my licence

Do you think this is related to John Murray saying he wasn't pauid after the Mitchell fight?

Thats due to the company being solvent and profitable from its other sources of revenue. Where if you just promote boxing and the tickets sales are not good you may have cashflow issues. Perhaps you should not be promising fighters high wages if you know you can't pay it on time.

Exactly this. Maybe novice olympians shouldn't be signed up on mega money before learning the trade the hard way

I'd rather wait a month for 50k than be paid 10k straight away, just a thought.

If the promoter told him that up front, I don't see the problem.

Kind of agree but it's still daft as if you didn't sell the 200 tickets and were not going to get paid, why even bother stepping in the ring

As to the thread title, sounds like a reasonable idea.

Totally outside of boxing, I used to work for a small firm whose owner wasn't fond of paying his invoices on time or his employees i.e. me and the others in the office. We had phone calls and emails all the time from angry companies who were owed money and our guy just didn't give a crap. I know from that personal situation how infuriating and worrying this situation can be and how much trouble it can cause with people. It causes a lot of stress to people and just isn't a nice way to live.

I am totally with Eddie Hearn on this one, if you promise someone a certain purse then it should be paid, for me within 28 days would seem to be acceptable (most businesses run on monthly invoice cycles), anything more than that is pretty bad going for guys who need their purse to survive and who might only get 2-3 fights per year to earn their money.

How long to this gets locked?

Are you saying that FW's fighters have to wait more than the stipulated 7 days to get paid?
Is that an admission that FW has not adhered to this rule?

This is standard practice from what I understand (although the volume of tickets may vary as the promoter wants to cover the cost of the purses).

Yeah i know a Boxer that done 70 tickets and didnt get a bean for his fight What a JOKE

If anyone watched the Calzaghe clan episodes on BBC before then they'll see an instance where Kerry Hope has sold 50 tickets for his fight which his promoter asked of him only to be phoned up 3 days before the fight that he must sell a further 30 to cover his opponents wage or he would have no purse.

when i boxed booth little frank didnt pay me for ages had to ask for it a few times thought this cant b right as i was use to match room payin there and then and didnt know this happened till then

Must admit it sounds like Matchroom are the most professional guys to work with in boxing, the others seem to be one man band/family type operations where things are a bit loose.

Or maybe he (and everyone else) is concerned with the present day, not 20 years ago.

You could argue (if you are a cynic) that Eddie Hearn could be trying to get one or two rival promoters here in UK potentially suspended so then he nip in and nick one or two fighters from those promoters. But if you are not a cynic it is an issue that does need to addressed to make sure that the fighters get the deals that they signed for and are not pressurised at all or have their purses delayed etc and it is right Hearn Jnr is encouraging the BBBofC to do more in investigating this.
