How serious is Sturm Taking Murray

Its just over 2 weeks till Martin Murray takes on sturm in Manheim. I read Sturm took macklin lightly and that was his reasoning for the performance. He'll no doubt know Murray is Bellow Macklin in the rankings i for one hope he has done the same again. I believe if he has there could be an upset on the cards. Martin will be in the shape of his life for this fight and i believe his hunger and freshness will play a huge part, plus he's getting married a few days later so obviously he wont want to marked up for the wedding pics jk, Theres over 300 going over which is not bad considering the venue and distance.

As serious as he took Macklin, unless he wants to prove a point with an early blow out. Surely he won't be as lax again.

Murray can't punch!
Won't be nowhere as good as macklins fight
he will get beat UD pts by a good few rounds

Lol you ever taken one off him? the reason for his low ko rate is probably beacuse of opponents just trying to survive, when ever iv seen him connect with a full power shot it has hurt every opponent,

I wish Murray the best of luck next month but, in truth, i can't see him being as competitive as Macklin was earlier this year. Murray has barely put a foot wrong thus far but he's never really been made to work and fought a few men with statistically-decent records but with no real pedigree behind it.
Nick Blackwell is a solid little fighter but green, only 16 unlicenced and nine paid bouts to his name, and it turned out to be brutally one-sided. Is that the best warm-up for the Sturm fight? Murray is a neat boxer who hits harder than his record suggests - Kevin Concepcion told me as much - but i worry this fight has come far too soon for him. I'd say Cello Renda was his most difficult night - and there's an argument that Cello deserved something out of that.
In comparison, Macklin had a hard 12-rounder with the Spaniard, Varon, and has also had solid distance battles with Yory Boy Campas and Geard Ajetovic, both of whom tested his resolve at some stage during the contest. Those fights, as well as the difficult-looking [on paper but not in reality] with former European champion Asikainen, stood him in excellent stead for the Sturm bout.

That sums things up for me. I've only seen a handful of his fights but I've come away thinking he's clearly a level above the opposition he's facing, each time.
Who knows though, it wouldn't be the first time someone's drowned after looking the part in the shallows.

Excellent post mate, I know training and actual fight night is completely different but i know how much he puts in so hopefully it will pay off, Murray to be fair has been after harder fights but people tend to shy away from him. I just think he'll be a lot more efficient than macklin was against sturm, there seemed to be no method in the madness with macklin, he thought he should have won on jus work rate alone, hopefully the best man on the night will win though.

I have ABA 2002 area final,it was his phenomenal work rate that out done me.His power has come on great since going pro and Martin will become a world champion all the Macklin lovers will be shocked when martin wins then Mack will be right at the back of the que for a shot.

You wanna see how Farmer looks since that day in 2002, he looks like he is constantley wearing a stocking over his head!!!
I dont think Martin has been trying to knock fighters out he has been learning his trade (aswell as always wanting to get big fights constantly) and not looking to damage his hands, Farmer reminds us he was a quality amateur who won ABA title and boxed international so has great basics himself!! His had good power aswell as not wasting punches!!!

I think Murray is up against it here personally, but I don't see a defeat (IMO that's how it'll go) as harmful to his development.
It'll teach him what he'll require to succeed at the higher level, time will only tell whether he really has it or not.
I'm not convinced he'll be more competitive than Macklin (who IMO won), but it was his decision to walk away from the return for whatever reason, and thus the opportunity has fallen to Murray.
Good to see our middles taking on these challenges, Barker and Macklin have fallen short in brave challenges, especially in the unfortunate absence of proper domestic clarity.
If the opportunity is there it's got to be taken, you could name dozens of British fighters that have waited for a weak champion on the advice of their manager/promoter and either never got a chance or got it when their best days were behind them.
