Green vs Wlodarczyk

Not much action on the forum about this fight and it's only 10 days away. Here's my take:

At 38yo, Green knows he has limited time left in boxing, which is why he has taken such a hard fight after being beaten by Tarver. The bookies have Green as favourite, but I honestly don't think he should be. After the surgery and layoff, he looked poor against Tarver. At nearly 200lb, he looked like The Hulk, far too musclebound and a little fleshy around the middle. Angelo Hyder has said that he doesn't think weight was a factor in the loss, but I disagree. Green himself admits he is a blown up light heavyweight and because of this, I think his best fighting weight is about 190lb, where he should be faster.

Green is known to be a big puncher with a good chin, but I'm not convinced that either of these attributes is much above average at Cruiserweight. Wlodarczyk is a naturally bigger man, and will certainly have power enough to hurt Green, who was actually the first man to be stopped by Tarver since 2007.

I have to admit that I haven't seen Wladarczyk fight, so there is little to say about him. I disagree with Green's assertion that he is "probably the best cruiserweight in the world". He is ranked #9 by BoxRec, which I think is a little low, based on results I think he deserves to be #6 at worst. His biggest win over Cunningham is considered to be something of a hometown decision that he did not deserve. His most recent result is a split decision win over an undefeated cruiserweight, where many on Current Scene suggest that he looked less than world class.

My bet: I see Wlodarczyk stopping Green in the mid to late rounds, although a Green win, most likely on points, would not surprise me.

For the record, I am a big fan of Green's and would love to see him win this fight. If he loses, he needs to step down from the world stage and either take easier fights or, preferably, retire.

I think Green has a good chance of winning and I hope he does. I'll be suprised if he does it with ease.

i dont know enough about the other guy to make a confident pick but i will say that a 38 year old guy who is realistically a natural lightheavyweight coming off the worst beating of his career probably shouldnt be the favorite. I really hope he can pull it off though. Only a bit over a week to go! What a week that will be, this on Wednesday than Margarito v Cotto and darchinyan all on the weekend

I'm factoring in that there is a bit of truth in the depressed/overdose/coma story plus the fact that it isn't unusual to see an import not fight to their full potential here (for whatever reason).

We'll know soon enough...

Green odds on favorite on Sportsbet. Gone from $1.70 two days ago to $1.50 today. Probably end up $1.30 at fight time.

to me that just seems absurd. Wlod is bigger, stronger and younger. I know that dosent mean everything but it still dosent seem right

Dont know alot about Wills opponent but I have heard he has been training the house down and has been holding his own in sparring against a very well creditable opponent, who may just be fighting on the same card.
Im getting excited about this awesome card...very surprised it hasnt sold out yet !! Ticket prices are very reasonable.

theres a lot more talk on eastside boxing about the fight. but mainly from green haters.

this is a good fight for australia. if green wins he is going to be a 4 time world champion and the green undercards are always good. if he looses then he is losing to one of the best cruisers out there. and proves he is a genuine contender by taking hard fights. lets face it he could have got any fight he wanted and choose probably the hardest.
i realy hope he wins cos the buzz will be magic at challenge stadium it always is when green smashes someone.

i havent seen enough of the pole to make a good judgemnt of how this fight is realy gonna go but green is one tough dude with heaps of power and atleast reasonable boxing skills. so he has a good chance, plus the pole normally fights at home and wont have felt the massive support for his opposition that he will when he heres everyone go mental for the vegie mite sandwhich song and it makes a massive difference having nearly the whole crowd on your side..

I'm unsure about who wins this fight.

On the one hand, Green is old and in his last fight he got his assed kicked by another old man. On the other hand, Wlodarczyk looked poor in his last two fights, and given his alleged suicide attempt, I'm not sure if he's all there mentally.

I would agree with Crusader on the winner, just can't see how this one turns out, which is all the more exciting.

Have to say that if Green doesn't win, it should be about that time to start thinking about it.

On the other hand if it's competitive, there still maybe something left really can't wait to see how this turns out.

I think if he looses but not by much then it isnt that bad a loss and he could still mix it up with some of the other champs lets face it the pole is a big ask fir any cruiser out there. on the other hand if he gets spanked then maybe he should wind it back a bit. take a couple of shane cameron style fights. really hope he can pull it off cos its a massive task after the last fight

They seem to count Pacmans and Arce's. But i do agree with you, it really is a silver medal. And i really do think Green won the title the first time around and he rightfully should have been Supermiddle champ.

I think of all the champs in the division Wlod matches up the best for Greeny as his movement is limited. We will see how badly effected Greeny is from the Tarver belting the first time Wlod hits him....my heart says Greeny, my head says Wlod....GO GREENY !!!!!

Just got back from the publicity weigh in. Weights will be out about 5pm Perth time I believe.
A good turn out of media etc.
All fighters looked very fit and raring to go. Wlod was very popular with the punters, signing items and getting photos.
