Do you rank Marquez as a welterweight now?

Just looked at Ring's Welterweight rankings. With the champ vacant, the top five runs thus:

Pacquiao
Mayweather
Ortiz
Berto
Vyacheslav Senchenko

and Marquez isn't ranked in the top ten at all. The only reason I can think this is is because of the catchweight, but it was still for a welter title so what the eff? Surely Marquez should be in the top 3? Personally due to the ultra competitive fight between Pacquiao and Marquez and the fact that Mayweather handled Juan so easily I think it should be:

Champ: vacant

Mayweather
Pacquiao
Marquez
Ortiz
Berto

I mean, they're still ranking Shane Mosely at 9 even though he's shot to sh*t and no room for Marquez? The Ring rankings are f*cked!

Clearly a one off fight at the weight and it was not actually properly at the weight for starters but a catchweight of 144 as you said.

The title meant nothing, it was a JMM v Pac fight that just so happened to have a crap belt attached to it. The Ring ratings are not flawed over this and your argument about the title making it a welter fight is flawed as The Ring clearly states that they pay zero attention to belts.

PLUS I am sure JMM has made it clear he remains Lightweight Champion and has no desire to fight at welter so why rob the number 10 guy of his rating which would happen if you put JMM into the rankings just for JMM to not fight at the weight again. When he does not continue at welter they would then have to take him back out causing more upheaval and peeing about.

How can you rank someone at a weight that has lost his only two fights at that weight?

I see what you're saying but if Marquez had won then you'd HAVE to rank him at welterweight, wouldn't you? And, as Ring had Manny as no.1 then You'd have to have Mayweather above both of them. The fact that you've got so many people giving Marquez the unofficial win coupled with the people who think Manny won saying it could have gone either way, I think Marquez deserves a ranking. But that's why the thread title is a question.

I don't think it causes much "upheaval" someone just has to go in and change it on the website. It's a five minute job. If they rematch again soon won't it be at welter anyway.

As for the catchweight, wasn't Pacquiao ranked at no.1 at Welter after beating Cotto at catchweight? One fight, not even at the weight. I know he beat Cotto up and it was a definitive win, but Marquez put in a very good performance against the number 1 dude so deserves consideration for the top 10 surely?

They still have Mosely in the top 10 and he has been soundly beaten by both Mayweather and Pacquiao and hasn't beaten anyone since Margarito in '09.
